Montpetit Decommits

I've received word that Waterloo forward Brock Montpetit has decommitted from the University of Wisconsin.

Montpetit committed to Wisconsin back in June of 2006. I haven't heard reasons why, or where he might be looking to play in the future, but this seems like a pretty serious hit to Wisconsin's image. There's been complaints of over-recruiting dogging their program for a few months now, and having a top player decommit likely won't do anything to help that reputation.

Update:
Andy Baggot talked with Montpetit's father about the situation.

That's the karma of over-recruiting.

If that's true, yikes, things are not looking good at UW

The post is true. There is a lot to the story and before you all start to speculate or place blame. Know that sometimes it is best for both parties to take another direction. Both Brock and the UW program will be just fine without each other.

Take that you stinkin' Badgers.

probably had to do with no letters of intent or changed amounts of scholarship.

wow, THE BLAME? A kid commits and is delayed and scholarship amounts changed and it is best for both parties? NCAA needs to look into UW recruiting.

Montpetit must have gotten the message after being delayed, and no LOI that UW really didn't want him anymore, another Erstad. What does being a UW recruit mean anymore? Just that you have to wait and see who else they can get to commit to see if they will ever honor their commitment to the student/athlete.

good thing they can still get Canadians and kids from outeast that don't know what is happening to earlier commits from the midwest.

Wisconsin Recruiting: If you want to be a Badger, just come along with me. Time to get a new recruiting headline for USCHO.

there seems to be an overabundance of "both parties taking different directions" in badger-land.

Stupid Drunkin Sconi's..... When will they learn?

Brock and UW will both be fine, agree with previous post. It is too bad in a sense that someone who committs at such a young age starts to see the writing on the wall (as far as playing time) once they mature at 18 years of age or older.....

Signing six forwards to come in 2009 and then maybe no one leaving if senior Ben Street decides to stay after getting medical red-shirted this season. Sounds like one big traffic jam to me! Montpetit will definately play and make an impact somewhere!!

Brock didn't get delayed at all. his was initially supposed to come in for the 2009 season with a slight chance at 2008. his recruiting was right on time.

Not to get picky, but Wisco was only planning on bringing in 5 forwards, (Lee, Montpetit, Barnes, Smith, and Meuer).

Correction: fourth decommit: Travis Erstad too.

Badgers should change the name of their Blog to "Many Alibis" and "Lots of Regrets". Saying "it's best for both parties" is also a nice way of saying "yeah, they over commited, we were lied to, but if you don't talk bad about us, we won't drag you through the mud either"; makes every one look classy but it doesn't do much for the family of a high schooler who turns down other offers based on a hand shake; perhaps if they allowed Letters of Intent to be signed at an earlier stage, ability to over recruit would be lessened; both sides would waste a lot less time. Conversely, maybe it's best that people are outing Eaves for all the little games he's playing with young men's lives. You certainly never hear about Berenson or Jackson or York over commiting or reneging on scholarship amounts. What does this say about the HS or aaa coaches that are "advising" these young men. Are they so enamored with Badger hockey that they lose sight of the fact that the person running the program is more important than the program itself.

Fire Eaves

NCAA needs to step in and do something. Eaves ego is out of control and he continues to over-recruit because as he sees it he can and he can get every kid to commit and he can delay them all, change their scholarship amounts(ask Hickey about what he is getting this year and he was a full too)and push them out. To him all these student/athletes are expendable. Thing is he is coaching in the college game where student/athletes want to believe they will have the opportunity to get a degree as well as play hockey. They want to trust the coaches they come to play for and they are finding out he isn't good for his word, and they are decommiting.
