Michael Forney, probably the top remaining forward for the class of 2006 has decided to attend the University of North Dakota next season over Minnesota.
Forney had a great summer that saw his stock rise all the way to a potential first round draft pick in next year's NHL draft.
Though a Minnesotan by birth, Forney is from Thief River Falls, which is much closer to North Dakota's campus, which probably played a factor in his decision. It also probably didn't help the Gophers that on his official visist, Forney got to watch Minnesota lose a football game on a dropped punt, and then get outplayed twice by Alaska-Fairbanks.
Also of note for North Dakota is that last weekend against Denver, Travis Zajac's brother, Darcy, who is now 3rd in the BCHL in scoring, and Marc Cheverie, the league's top goalie, both visited North Dakota.

Forney to North Dakota is not surprising. He seems more like a small town kid who may not be comfortable with the bright lights of a big city atmosphere. It doesn't hurt that he will be playing closer to home. Good luck to him.
