It's Almost High School Hockey Time

(As a disclaimer, I'm sure the MSHSL would like to remind you that this is a blog and not a newspaper--one of the main differences being that I'm not cutting huge amounts of staff any time in the near future--and therefore nothing I say is worthy of reading. Also, this is a college hockey blog, so why would I even write about high school hockey?)

High school football is getting close to wrapping up(probably?) which means it's almost time for high school hockey season here in Minnesota.

Fox Sports North released their television schedule for this year, including a girl's game between Anoka and Centennial which, at least from a gender equity standpoint, is great to see. I also shouldn't poke too much fun at what is a great venture by FSN, but it's good to see Eden Prairie, St. Thomas Academy, and Cretin all on the schedule, so they'll have tons of footage for future Gopher games. Sadly missing from the TV schedule is my favorite school, the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley HS Deer Smackers(Editor's Note: Possibly not their real nickname.)

The 3rd annual Hockey Day Minnesota will be on January 17th this year, and the event looks to be even better this year. For one, they will be including other Minnesota universities, as Minnesota takes on St. Cloud. Southern Minnesota will also be represented in the form of Rochester John Marshall HS.

And finally, MyFoxHockey released their Preseason Top 10 poll.

Without putting a ton of research into it, my preseason top ten would look like this: 1. Edina 2. Eden Prairie 3. Hill-Murray 4. Centennial 5. Holy Angels 6. Hopkins 7. St. Thomas Academy 8. Blaine 9. Duluth East 10. Duluth Marshall

There has to be some games missing, ads I've heard say FSN is broadcasting 16 HS games this year.

That FSN schedule is terrible and very disappointing. They go from showing almost twenty games to seven.

Too bad we get gender equity instead of entertaining Hockey.

I can see why an Obama supporter would love this. Four years of media slurp-jobs to look forward to. Well you guys ought to be great since you've over a year of practice.

At the FSN booth at the State Fair this year, they told me they were planning on about 20 games. I think the short list is a preliminary teaser and they'll add more later.

Wow, no section 8 teams in your top 10?

Annon 11:03....Your boy made a horrible choice for a running mate, and got his ass kicked in the election. Get over it.

McCain did make a bad choice, not as bad as the one this country made electing a guy who has achieved very little except being born black and giving a good speech. If the media had spent as much time focusing on Obama's lack of experience as they rightfully did with Palin, we may have had a different outcome. But political correctness dictates no criticism of minorities, unless you want to be called a racist. Face the facts, we currently have a moron for a president. Whose every decision has been, not just wrong, but terrible. With the current economy McCain had almost no chance, add to that your guy bought the election after going back on a promise to accept federal funding. I can see how you'd be proud of his accomplishment. I know I'm proud to have voted for the loser in the last three elections or at least I'm proud to have voted against the winners.

The only thing that really worries me is the cult of personality which has sprung up around the president-elect. I hope at some point someone will have the guts to speak the truth about Obama. I won't hold my breath waiting though, the people that voted for Obama are really just the mirror image of the dupes that elected and then re-elected the worst President of the modern era. I guess the only consolation is Obama can't be worse than Bush, at least I hope that's true.

Back to Hockey. That doesn't change the fact the election and this decision to televise girl's hockey is political correctness run amok. This is same BS that moved the girl's State Tournament to the Xcel where they play to an empty arena. It's never about equality of opportunity, it's always about equality of outcome.

Anon 11:48...Here was part of your rambling post: "Face the facts, we currently have a moron for a president. Whose every decision has been, not just wrong, but terrible."

You realize you voted for a guy who voted for those same wrong decisions you stated over 80% of the time don't you?
