Pohl in Intensive Care

For those that haven't seen it like everywhere else, Minnesota forward Tom Pohl is still in intensive care, undergoing observation after undergoing surgery for a skull fracture that caused bleeding in his brain.

It's a horrible injury, but it sounds like Pohl received some great medical treatment, and hopefully it won't end up being as bad as it could be.

Minnesota State athletic director Kevin Buisman just released the following statement:
"On behalf of Maverick hockey, Minnesota State Athletics, and the entire University, we want to express our deepest care and concern for Tom Pohl and his family. They will be in our thoughts and prayers as we continue to monitor his medical progress and we want to extend our best wishes for a complete and full recovery."
I agree. Thoughts and prayers are with Pohl and his family.

Where is your righteous indignation towards MSUM after this cheap shot? You constantly target UND, but say nothing when it is MSUM despite the fact that they always seem to be involved in these type of incidents. Perhaps some purple-colored glasses??

Grow up. This is someone's life we are talking about- not some stupid team-bashing topic.

It wasn't a cheap shot. It was an elbow and should have been a penalty, but Pohl's helmet came off before he hit his head. It's an unfortunate injury.

What a stupid, thoughtless comment. We need to keep Tom & his family in our prayers.

Get well soon, Tom.

3:38.....what a low-life punk you must be. A player is in the hospital with a severe head injury and you're bitching about past criticism of the Sioux. Get some perspective on things you scumbag.

I guess that's the dangers of allowing anonymous comments.

I'm not a gopher fan, but as a hockey fan and a player, you never like to see this happen. On the positive, they got him to Mayo quickly. Usually it's the guys that don't know they have a sever head injury that end up having issues.

Here's to hoping for a full recovery.

Lets not talk about how this was a cheap shot or how it was not a cheap shot. The pointis is that he got hurt really bad and all that someperson on here thinks about is that everyone targets the sioux. This is not the concern. The concern is Tom's health and that he makes a full recovery. Quite thinking about yourself and show some consideration for Tom and his family.

First it was not even remotely what I would call a "cheap shot". A minor penalty that had an unfortunate bizzare twist with the helmet coming off and him hitting his head on the dasher. The devestating result does not change the fact that it was nothing more or less than a minor penalty. A slash or cross check could once out of a million times result in a crazy scenerio that results in a tragic result like this, but they too would be nothing more than a minor penalty.

All that said, as a player parent and fan (who by the way dislikes the rodents very much), seeing this type of injury is the one thing you never want to see in a hockey game. I hope and pray that Mr Pohl has a full and speedy recovery with no long term effects from this play.

This was a sad but preventable incident. This should be a lesson to players and coaches alike strap your bucket tight like it was designed. Too many players wear their helmets half strapped or loosened to the point it falls off easily. IMHO, if you've got a mask on, your helmet should never fall off. Strap'em Up Boys.

What a tragic thing to happen to an outstanding young man. My best wishes and prayers go out to Tom Pohl and his family. I can only hope that his recovery is swift and he is on the ice next season.ASDF
