(I'll have more on this past weekend, including the Showcase later. For now, I'll stick with the quick and easy stories.)
Chris Heisenberg is reporting that Alaska has picked up commitments from two top USHL players in forward Justin Brossman and defenseman Cody Butcher.
Brossman is currently tied for 10th in the USHL in scoring with 19 points in 16 games. Brossman played prep hockey at Shattuck-St. Mary's prior to joining the Sioux City Musketeers this year.
Brossman will be the 6th player off of the 2001 Littleton Hawks Peewee AA team to play Division I hockey. That team, which included Denver's Tyler Ruegsegger and Chris Nutini, Colorado College's Richard Bachmann, Minnesota State's Zach Harrison, and Air Force's Brad Sellers, was the first team from Colorado to win a national title.
Cody Butcher is playing alongside Brossman in Sioux City. He has 9 assists through 16 games this year. Butcher is originally from Anchorage, Alaska. He played last year with the Merritt Centennials of the BCHL.
It's been a rough season so far for Fairbanks. They finally got on the board on Saturday night with a tie, but they're still winless on the season. A few players that played under Tavis MacMillan have left the team this year, allowing new head coach Doc DelCastillo to stock his roster with players that he has recruited.

Brossman played in Vernon for a year before Sioux City. He is a quality player and uses his stick very well.
