Mattson to Sioux

NTDP U17 defenseman Nick Mattson verbally committed to North Dakota tonight.

Mattson, who played high school hockey last year for Chaska, is the only Minnesotan player on this year's NTDP U17 team, and is considered one of the top prospects from Minnesota. He received interest from a number of schools, but his final decision came down to Minnesota and North Dakota, and the Sioux ended up winning out.

Brad Schlossman of the Grand Forks Herald already has a story up.

This is a very nice pick-up for North Dakota.

Not a Sioux fan but I must admit Hakstol has out-recruited tDon in a major way the past few years.

The gophers didn't recruit him.

This makes up for losing Ness

Actually knowing what I know about the youth programs in Chaska and a indivual in a postion to influence recruits from that area. This was not a terible surprise and I would be shocked to see the Gophers get any really good kids out of Chaska for awhile.

They have a person who you would think would help the Gophers out in recruiting who is actually a Huge Sioux Fan. Shocking when you know his history.

I just love this latest Gopher excuse in that one Sioux fan is brainwashing the entire Chaska organization to favor the Sioux and reject the Gophers. Whatever why can't you just admit that you lost a MAJOR Minnesota in a recruiting battle because he liked the facilities, coaches, etc. Minnesota fans, especially the delusional Hammy, just can't fathom that not every suburbian Minnesota stud has aspirations to play for the Gophers.

You miss the point. It was a loss and the Sioux won out. Big Deal it happens. However the fact that someone in Chaska is partial to the Sioux is not going to help future shots at players from there. You really need to take a reading comprehension class. No one is crying over it just disappointed. That person btw is not brainwashing people but influence is still influence.

I just think he fancied the idea of wearing a halo.

No surprise Lucia lost out on this recruit. Lucia's whole aura is wearing thin and playing for Minnesota is no longer the end game for Minnesota players.....because it means playing for Lucia. As long as Lucia is coach, the Gophers will never win another National Championship.

Of course Hakstol has out recruited Don Lucia. Lucia is a lazy recruiter and word has gotten around the circles that he is also tough to play for, and many players do not like him.

....also is his inability to prepare players for the pro game. He's a real softy when it comes to conditioning, weight training, etc. Players are also clueless when it comes to systems, in which every NHL team uses in one way or another in certain situations. NHL GM's can't stand him for this.

Yeah cause Hakstol sure knows how to get the winning results. Hakstol may be able to right the ship during the season but he doesn't know how to win when it counts most. Lucia has proven he can win. Whether regular season, playoffs, or NCAA championships, Lucia has done it. Let us know when Hakstol and his "wonderful systems" and "tough" conditioning program actually win something worth a damn. Cause making it there but not winning doesn't mean a hell of a lot when it comes down to it. lol!

i know nobody will likely see this comment page again, but i just have to respond to that last rant about winning when it counts.

first of all tDon can't even beat holy cross when it counts lately. and he lost, to hakstol himself, last year and failed to advance to the frozen four. come on i thought minnesota was so good last year.

and finally, this thread isnt even about winning games, its about recruiting, dumbass
