Eastern News

I know there are readers with an interest, so I'll try to pass along some updates from time to time as I get them. It seemed like a busy day out east.

First, Northeastern recruit Daniel Erlich signed with the London Knights of the OHL. The Knights made a strong push for Erlich during their training camp, and Erlich declined, but finally gave in to the Knights. It should be interesting to see if Erlich's decision changes the mind of another talented Northeastern recruit from Ontario in Andy Bathgate.

Maine released their list of players that signed a letter of intent, and included on the list was Swede Gustav Nystrom. He is playing for the Malmo Redhawks U20 team(one level above the Malmo team that traveled out to Minnesota).

Maine also got verbal commitments from Ontario forward Spencer Abbott, and '92 born defenseman Kevin Gagne. Gagne is from New Brunswick and is currently playing for Rothesay Netherwood Prep school. Gagne would have been a top prospect for this spring's QMJHL draft, and I doubt the Q will let him go without much of a fight. Another interesting angle is that Gagne is a long-time teammate and friend of Russell Stover defenseman Garrett Clarke, who has received some scholarship offers, and will be a top prospect for either the NCAA or QMJHL.

I love how you try to spin things to make the CHL look bad. The big, bad OHL pressured another young kid into a decision. Give it a rest. Erlich had wanted to join the Knights all year and finally left his junior team for the past week cause he was unhappy. But now he's a lot happier.

What is Bob saying now? Great job Bob!

Maybe it is all of the negative stuff these parents are being hit with by, and they are getting sick of it!
