Paul Shaheen's Research on Ice Newsletter is reporting that Notre Dame has received a commitment from St. Catharine's, Ontario forward Riley Sheahan. Chris Heisenberg had recently mentioned that Sheahan dropped from the first round of the OHL draft down to the 4th round because of his NCAA interest.
Sheahan is a 1991 birthdate, making him the latest in a long line of players committing before they hit the 11th grade. But since Sheahan was already forced to make a tough decision between the NCAA and CHL, it only makes sense for him to also pick which team he wants to play for. Similarly, Notre Dame almost had to offer him a scholarship that early because if a player doesn't have any offers to choose from at that age, he may get jumpy and choose to go to the OHL, where they are guaranteed a spot on a team.
The other commitment is Dallas Stars AAA defenseman Matt Donovan committing to Denver. Donovan was recently a first round selection in the USHL Draft. Donovan joins Andrew Hamburg(CC) and Locke Jillson(Cornell) as players off last year's Dallas Stars team to commit to a college.
