Cogliano Signs With Edmonton

Michigan forward Andrew Cogliano has signed with the Edmonton Oilers.

After a fairly non-descript freshman season, Cogliano emerged as one of the better forwards in the CCHA this year. The Oilers had a rough season this past year, and bringing in someone who is already pretty well-known around Canada thanks to his two World Juniors gold medals should probably give them a nice boost.

This is the second underclassmen that Michigan has lost this summer, after Jack Johnson turned pro once the college season ended. Cogliano's departure leaves Michigan extremely thin at the center position for next season.

I think "inexperienced" is a better term than "thin." Tim Miller switched to center this past season. And recruits Matt Rust, Louie Caporusso, and Ben Winnett are all centers.

Plus Fardig/Ciraulo can center the fourth line. Winnett's a bit taller at 6'1 and could possibly be moved to the wing.

I'm guessing Gordon has a few of his current forwards (who by the way were part of the #1 overall recruited class for that year) learning the ropes of being a center. It's only early May, maybe Gordon can find a diamond in the rough at center to bring in next season.

Geez, you sound like a USCHO newbie who just learned of a five year old joke and thinks no one's ever heard it, so lets repeat it a million times because it must be funny...

In the Michigan Daily's article Berenson suggested that Canadian players are too aggressive in pursuing pro contracts. Not sure I agree but the numbers seem to support it.
