Alaska is still searching for their new head coach. The UA school newspaper, the Sun Star, profiled the search committee. Three of the six committee members played hockey at Fairbanks, and were teammates of Wade Klippenstein, who is one of the top candidates for the job.
Meanwhile, Alabama-Huntsville is searching to replace Doug Ross, who retired after this past season. Huntsville isn't necessarily an attractive job, but it looks like a great opportunity for some up-and-coming assistant coaches to get some collegiate head coaching experience on their resume. UAH has narrowed the field down to five candidates. They are: Tom Carroll (New England College), Tim Christian (Lake Superior), Danton Cole (Bowling Green), Doc DelCastillo (Nebraska-Omaha) and Lance West (Alabama-Huntsville).
Doc DelCastillo worked at St. Cloud under Craig Dahl for two seasons, before moving to Omaha, where he handles most the Mavs recruiting. Danton Cole had a pretty decent NHL career, and was a head coach in the AHL, before moving back to college hockey. He worked as an assistant at Bowling Green, and may be looking to get some college hockey head coaching experience to set him self up to take over for Rick Comley at his alma mater of Michigan State in a few years. Tim Christian is a former Ferris State Bulldog that has worked at Lake Superior for the past five years.

Cool to see Tom Carroll in the list. He assisted at Notre Dame for quite a while under Ric Schafer. Good luck to him!
Carroll also assisted under Poulin and was a big factor in their near-miss NCAA tournament appearance in 1999 (when it was still 12 teams).
Ummm I do believe that the school is UAF and not UA if they represent all of Alaska then we are screwed, and yes the sports teams "are" the Alaska Nanooks but the school is still the university of alaska fairbanks, well the banks of the chena aren't actually that fair but far better than ship creek i guess. (although ship creek has salmon runs and i am fairly certain that the chena isn't much for salmon but good grayling fishing.)
I guess Fairbanks has to hire a person who attended school up there cause no one in there right mind would go to that place.
