Recruiting News

Minnesota got a commitment from NTDP U17 defenseman Grant Scott. Scott took a visit to Minnesota last weekend and decided to commit on Tuesday. I'm sorry, but if you visit Minnesota and list the crowd at Mariucci as one of the reasons for committing, obviously you haven't taken enough visits. It's hard to blame a player with an offer from Minnesota for not taking it though.

This one is kind of surprising all around. Scott is a Pennsylvania native and Minnesota doesn't recruit too many players out of there. It's also a little surprising because I've seen some less than positive scouting reports of Scott. Then again, the NTDP saw something in him, and so did Minnesota's coaching staff, so he can't be all that bad.

Anchorage got a commitment from Alaska Avalanche(NAHL) forward Brad McCabe. McCabe is a big foward(6' 200 lbs.) and an '88 birthdate. He got off to a nice start in the NAHL this year. He's eligible for the NHL draft this summer and was listed as a "B" prospect by the Central Scouting Bureau.

Grand Rapids(Minn.) HS defenseman Joe Stejskal has committed to Dartmouth. It's nice to see a Minnesota kid get the opportunity to play college hockey and get an Ivy League education.

Minnesota fans sit on their hands 95% of the time. Everytime I go to watch the gophers play, I sometimes wondering if that coughing is from the other side. Gophers fans have a long way to go if they want to be loud like Wis, UND and especially SCSU. great program quiet fans

If it is so surprising that Scott committed to UMTC maybe he is using it as future leverage, to get a better deal from a CHL team.

Actually, the crowd was pretty loud at Mariucci this past weekend. I guess if you don't attend Gopher games regularly, you won't know.

SCSU is only loud when the Gophers are in town. Why do UND fans on siouxsports.com complain about the atmosphere so much if it's soooo great?? I guess the Gopher haters are having a difficult time finding something to rip on this year. UW is loud, but I read that everyone was leaving early last Saturday.

If there have been rumors about Scott possibly playing major junior in the past, then it would be a fair comparison. There have been no such rumors, so therefore your comparison is flawed.

Who's hating the gophers, it's just a fact. 1st anonymous is pretty much right. Get over it. As SCSU season ticket holder, you couldn't be more wrong about SCSU being loud only at UM games, just ask any UND, UW, UMD fan that watched their team at SCSU.

The only reason SCSU even sells out is because their tickets are free.... Free tickets at division I, are you kidding me, quite the program they got there.

The only reason it might be loud once in awhile is because the slutty chicks at SCSU are jersey chasing.

Don't hate because you can't get recruits like UM can.

Mariucci probably doesn't have to on-going random noise like UW, but it gets pretty loud for key events. Like scoring goals (SCSU and UW don't see much of that from the home team)

Didn't the Trailer Park Boys consider making their film in St. Cloud because it wouldn't cost them any extra for sets and cast. LOL

Commited to Minny to use it as future leverage to get more money out of a QMJHL team for sure ;) I mean why the hell else would you commit to that dump? Money talks!! Wait and see

As a UND fan I have only heard the New REA arena be really loud a few times. 1st) time was during the WCHA playoffs about three years ago against DU in the game three. The place was rocking. 2nd) and during the Regional last year when the Gophers lost to Holy Cross in overtime that carried over to the second game between UND and Michigan. 3rd.) The championship game against Holy Cross was also loud but that is about it. The new REA doesn't seem to have the atmosphere of some of the other building like the Kohl center. I have only been to Marriucci a few times and it seems to lack something too. Almost stale.

I think the Size of the buildings has something to do with the atmosphere but also the fans that sit in these building sit on their hands and barely ever cheer no matter what is going on.

I'll mouth off you peons listen. Nothing like reading a pissing match between SCSU and UMTC with a little UND thrown in about crowd rowdiness. I've attended a few games at mariucci. As to the mariucci being quiet; didn't umtc score 8 goals saturday night? If that was the night the kid attended a UMTC game Ok, I can see where he might be impressed, sold out arena and UMTC fans spelling MINNESOTA 8 times. Second as to the using UMTC as a bargaining chip, I haven't been able to find any info on this kid intending to go to the CHL, please post where I can find this. I think this is just a bitter North Dakota fan that fears that Cichy will ultimately go to the "Q" instead of No. Dakota and is bitter that No Dakota is the pawn in this recruit war.
And by the way I'm not a gopher fan by any stretch of the imagination, I was glad to see them kack against Holy Cross.

i agree, mariucci does suck and I'm a gopher fan.

Hey gophers fans,
Do the world a favor and get a new cheer for god's sakes. Spelling out the name of your state is probably the dumbest sounding thing you could do. You all sound like a bunch of idiots every time you score a goal. Almost like you have to spell it out, so you all remember how it goes.

M i n n s o t a, oh wait M i n n e s o t a, Good thing education assistant wrote my papers in college otherwise I wouldn't have every got my U of M degree.

I doubt they would ever challenge your crowd to spell St Cloud. Could be ugly LOL

The MINNESOTA rouser is great. Annoys the crap out of everyone. Must suck as an opposing fan to hear that sooo much during games.

I have often thought that St Cloud should adopt something unique in their "Barn". How about a banjo and jug band, something all of their fans could relate to.

No matter what the score, Gopher fans leave half way through the third period to beat traffic. All of those who criticize St. Cloud for having lower admissions standards and a second-rate culture are ignorant. I had season tickets to both, am fans of both, and would watch a game at SCSU over U of M any day.
