These are getting shorter, since there's no point in writing stuff like "Riley Nash is good" every week, and they'll probably die out once the season gets started, but it's something to talk about.
Salmon Arm is still undefeated in the BCHL. They've scored 52 goals in those games, giving them just over 7 goals a game. I know some football teams that would be pleased with that. Silverback Ben Winnett continues to answer the question of "Why was everyone so excited about a kid that scored only 49 points last year." He's second in league scoring with 20 points in 7 games, but has a game in hand on leader Casey-Pierro Zabotel.
Wisconsin recruit Kyle Turris got off to a slow start since he was sidelined due to injury, but he's scored 7 points in his first four games.
Merritt's Pat Rogan is a potentially nice story. Over his career, this former Shattuck player has gone from great prospect, to total bust, and now back to being a good prospect. By the way, he won't turn 17 until June. He struggled with injuries while at Shattuck and wasn't able to live up to the large billing given to him, but now it looks like he's back on the right track. He's got 6 points through his first 8 games.
Chris Heisenberg reports that Tyler Gron, one of the top prospects in the AJHL this year had his rights traded from Prince George to Medicine Hat. Gron didn't want to play in Prince George, and Medicine Hat thought they might be able to sign him since it's closer to his home. Though Chris makes it clear that it's not a done deal yet. It should be interesting to see how that plays out.
Michigan Tech recruit Bennett Royer is off to a nice start in Calgary. He's got 7 points in 4 games. Tech looks to have a very solid recruiting class coming in next season. It should give some hope to fans to help them get through what could be a potentially rough year this season.
Finally, female goalie Shannon Szabados is in the top 5 among goalies in the AJHL. Szabados was the first female to play hockey in the WHL, when she played briefly for the Tri-City Americans. This is her fourth full season in the AJHL, and so far, her most successful. She decided against playing women's college hockey, and instead chose to stay in Canada and play in the AJHL while attending the University of Alberta.

As long as you're mentioning the BCHL, I'd like to note that SCSU recruit Brian Volpei has overcome his slow start and posted 4 goals and 4 assists in 3 weekend games for the aforementioned Salmon Arm Silverbacks. Volpei is small, but was the leading scorer for Shattuck's prep team last year. The bar should be set very high for Brian in the BCHL, and so far he seems to be living up to his billing. I don't think a top ten finish in scoring would be unexpected. In fact, IMHO, no discussion of Ben Winnett vs. Riley Nash should go without mentioning Brian Volpei.
