I had previously mentioned Kory Kaunisto committing to Northern Michigan, and Paul Shaheen was kind enough to send me from information from his Research on Ice newsletter. Here's what he had to say about Kaunisto:

Six foot, 173 pound winger Kory Kaunisto, who skated last season for the AAA Soo Indians, has committed to Northern Michigan for the fall of 2008.

This coming year, the Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan native will skate for the NAHL Traverse City North Stars.

"It's great, because that's why you play junior hockey - for the college scholarship," said Kaunisto in a North Stars press release. "You're out there looking for that opportunity, and to get a shot at it right away - I feel very fortunate."

Last season, Kaunisto scored 21 goals and 45 points in 60 games.

The newsletter also contained this tidbit at the end of an article talking about Yale's David Meckler leaving to play in the OHL:

London, of course, is still hoping to grab US NTDP forward Patrick Kane, whom to date has yet to decide whether he plans on playing D-I or in the CHL. Word on the street is there may be a difference of opinion within Kane's family as to what route he should take.
