Recruiting Update Part II

Nebraska-Omaha picked up two new forwards this weekend. The first is Des Moines(USHL) center Rich Purslow. Purslow is a native New Yorker that has found his niche with the Bucanneers on the third line centering Michigan recruit Aaron Palushaj and Army recruit Ken Rowe. Purslow's playmaking ability has helped make them one of the league's toughest third lines.

Omaha assistant Doc Del Castillo, who recruited Purslow to Omaha, also recruited his brother, Chris Purslow, to come to St. Cloud in the late 90's. Chris Purslow played two seasons for the Huskies before injuries cut his career short.

The other Omaha recruit is power forward Nick Fanto of the Omaha Lancers(USHL). Fanto is a Michigan native that passed on some other offers to stay in the CCHA. Fanto, who is 6'1" 205 lbs. should provide some balance with all the diminutive forwards Omaha has recruited for the next two seasons.

Minnesota-Duluth added Des Moines defenseman Chase Ryan. Ryan played in the USHL All-Star this season. He's originally from Illinois and played his youth hockey with the Chicago Young Americans program. Hockeysfuture.com rated him as the 8th best prospect in the USHL last November. He's a solid defensive defenseman that does his job very well without being overly flashy.

Michigan Tech picked up a local kid in Bismarck(NAHL) forward Eric Kattelus. Kattelus originally hails from Houghton, Michigan. He's currently 10th in the league in scoring with 32 goals and 24 assists in 37 games.

You mentioned Omaha's diminutive forwards that have been recruited for the next couple of seasons. I worry that even if these players are super fast, that their lack of size and weight should be a big concern for UNO hockey fans.

Seeing that UNO is doing so well this season and perhaps next, shouldn't they wait to recruit some bigger players that might then come their way?

I have seen Rich Purslow play many times and he's a good recruit. Believe me, he may lack in size, and to be honest, he's not that fast. But he goes out there and plays the game. He also doesn't rough up with other players so he really doesn't need the bulk but he can take a hit once or twice.

FIRST OFF NONE OF YOU KNOW ANYTHING...RICH IS AN AMAZING HOCKEY PLAYER AND IS FAST AND JUST B/C HE ISN'T 6 FT DOESN'T MEAN HE CAN'T PLAY AMONG THOSE BOYS, YOU HAVE NOT SEEN HIM PLAY WITH PLAYERS THAT CAN ACTUALLY PLAY. HE IS NOT ONLY A SCORER BUT HE IS AN OVERALL GAME PLAYER/MAKER. IF PEOPLE COULD KEEP UP AND UTILIZE THE PASSES HE GIVES THEM. HE'LL LIVE UP TO EVERYTHING AND I BELIEVE HE WILL BE A STRONG ASSET TO UNO. AND OBVIOUSLY SO DOES DOES UNO

ARE YOU KIDDING, rich is a fast skater and sees the ice better than most players. Size is the problem with the sport, notice the nhl is trying to make the game faster with more skilled players, and with less meat heads like eric lindros, who really started the entire decline of the nhl. Plus I have seen chris his brother play and if not for injuries he'd be in the nhl right now, one of the best hockey players I have watched.
