Key Games

I had mentioned on Saturday that the WCHA only had two teams in the NCAA tournament and the CCHA only had one, according to the way-too-early PWR. That hasn't changed, though Colorado College replaced MSU as a WCHA rep, while Miami replaced Michigan as the CCHA rep.

One of the big reasons for this is that as of right now, the ECAC has 5 teams in the top 13 of the country, thanks to their late start, and rather insular schedule so far. In any case, non-conference games against these ECAC schools could have a big impact on NCAA tournament status for a lot of teams in the WCHA and CCHA. Here's a look at those non-conference games.

Already Played:

10-10-08: Michigan 4 St. Lawrence 3
10-11-08: Michigan 5 St. Lawrence 3
10-18-08: Nebraska-Omaha 2 Union 1 (OT)

Still to Come:
11-28-08: Colgate at Denver, Cornell at North Dakota
11-29-8: Colgate at Colorado College, Cornell at North Dakota
12-5-08: North Dakota at Harvard
12-6-08: North Daktoa at Harvard
12-13-08: RPI at Miami
12-14-08: RPI at Miami
12-19-08: Clarkson at Bowling Green
12-20-08: Clarkson at Bowling Green
12-27-08: Cornell vs. St. Cloud(Florida College Classic), Lake Superior vs. Harvard(Badger Showdown)
12-28-08: Potentially Colgate vs. St. Cloud(Florida College Classic), Potentially Harvard vs. Wisconsin(Badger Showdown)
12-29-08: Minnesota State at Princeton, Nebraska-Omaha at Yale
12-30-08: Nebraska-Omaha at Princeton, Minnesota State at Yale
1-2-09: Brown at Minnesota(Dodge Holiday Classic), Clarkson vs. Miami(Ohio Hockey Classic), St. Lawrence vs. Ferris State(Catamount Cup), Union vs. Notre Dame(Shillelagh Tournament)
1-3-09: Potentially Brown vs. Western Michigan, Potentially Clarkson vs. Ohio State(Ohio Hockey Classic), Potentially Colgate vs. Ferris State(Catamount Cup), Potentially RPI vs Denver(Denver Cup), Potentially Union vs. Minnesota-Duluth(Shillelagh Tournament)

must be a slow day in the hockey world; is there really any point to making ncaa predictions roughly 6-8 games into season

Is it just me, or does UND play the most non-conference opponents this year with 10 games? I think Minny plays 6 games.. Which will also affect the PWR later down the road if UND sucks it up the 1st half, and then gets hot in the 2nd..
