I think most Wisconsin fans will miss Klubertanz and Drewiske for what they did in 2005, not for their play in the last two years. Many considered Klubertanz the weak link in the defense last year. Both were considered their #4 and #5 defenseman on the team as Goloubef and McDonagh accelerated right past them in terms of play after mid-season. They lost two "veterans", but I would hardly consider them their "top" defenseman.

Wisconsin's over-recruitment has now created a problem with players decommiting. Eaves and Murray's daddy may be friends but bringing in Murray before Montpetit, Erstad or Smith(add Hickey to that list of delayed for Murray without "special" circumstances)was a personal favor. Putting him right in the line-up is probably on of the least professional things Eaves has done in his college coaching career. All his talk of stats, earning ice was thrown out the window.

You can have all the defensemen you want, but you still gotta have somebody to put the puck in the net consistently. Who is gonna do that for Sconny? Same story as the last 5 years...no offense.

"A cast of thousands. . ." - I always loved that one.

With Bill Howard no longer around how will that affect the goalie situation at Wisconsin?

Murray seemed more productive then Montpetit when both were at SSM. Montpetit, Erstad, Smith and even Hickey did very little at the USHL level to make one suspect they deserve a spot in the lineup over anyone. How about we let Murray play a few games and then judge his abilities at the college level? I heard a lot about Pat Johnson being underserving going into last year, and he acquitted himself quite well.

anony 7:20...WOW...where do I even beggin with your nonsense?

Overrecruitment and decommits...Wiercioch committed with his eye's wide open...he was the last dman in and clearly told he was coming no earlier then '09. Good for him that his stock rose with a good draft and a rotten situation with Carle opened an oppurtunity for him at a higher end school sooner. Pryor has know for 4 years that he was not coming in until '09 and is certainly needed by UW (moreso in light of Wiercioch).

On Murray, so you've been to captains practices, the small group practices, and now a few days of practice to see how Murray stacks up against the rest of the Badger forwards to know he does not deserve his ice time?

Ha, again how can Montpetit, Smith, and Erstad be delayed when they were brought in for either 2008 or 2009? You can ignore the downfall of the Gopher program with Donny boy still at the helm, but your logic and credibility here is thrown out the window.

"least professional things Eaves has done"? Eaves has done way more unprofessional things during his tenure.
Where to begin:
Hit player in hotel room
over-recruit
push longtime hockey staff out of program:Rob,Nancy,Howie
Push players out of program :Leavitt,Auffrey,Sawatske, Lil'Heater,Slinde,Rowe,Williams,Bearson,Erstad,Prior

2:06, you lost all credibility when you listed Heatley, Rowe, and Slinde since all three were walk-ons.

It's pretty hard to argue that Eaves has had a couple of de-commits and has seen several other players just plain leave the UW program at very least, or worse, these players were forced out. As the fan of another team it is nice to see a rival program in such disarray with the fans defending every move their volatile head coach has made.

Many of us are waiting to see if this will effect UW's recruiting battles with other WCHA schools.

I suspect it would be different if Eaves were wildly successful. Outside of winning the big one, with the hands down best goalie in the nation, his teams have struggled. Even Sconnie fans must question with Howard leaving what the future holds. Eaves whole system is predicated on not just good, but great goalie-play. Will the next coach come close to Howard's success?

uncle bearson? is that you? I know it is hard to comprehend that your nephew can't play at the high D1 level, but please don't put him in the same class as Auffrey and Williams that were too impatient to wait for their turn and went on to MJ. Comparisons to WLKONS liek little Heatley, SLide, Sawatske, & Rowe are much more appropriate. The biggest blunder of Eaves and co is actually giving Bearson scholarship money

Sawatske was also a walk-on.

"Same story as the last 5 years...no offense."

I saw a lot of offense during 2005/06, maybe in your world that wasn't in the last five years.

Jordy Murray was the 3rd leading scorer at SSM the last 2 seasons. Stepan and Toews are being touted as great freshman and Murray is just lucky to be in Wisconsin's freshman class?

I love all the haters. Sure Eaves has his issues, I'm not blind, but some of the stupid sh*t I read on here is just unbelievable. Get out of your mom's basement.

Who cares who were walk-ons most of the walk-0ns are recruited. The amazing thing is how many of these players are NHL draft picks. Who can figure who will make it at Wisconsin? Mr. hockey's from MN and Wisc.gone, four NHL draft picks in Williams, Bearson, Prior and Erstad gone and that is just in the last four years. Where else in the country do draft picks end up like this? Don't have to be a relative of any of these kids to wonder what is up at Wisconsin.

7:18, I think the point these guys are getting about the walk-ons were that there wasn't a committment to that player so how can they be pushing them out? Who are they pushing the walk-on out for? Another walk-on?

6:22 PM:
If you are serious enugh to think that relying on freshmen to score this year in the WCHA will get Wisco off the 2-1 game score schneid, then you are drinking all of what whacky Mike Eaves is mixing up. Cheers!

Why hasn't Gorowsky had more of an impact at Wisconsin

Anonymous said...

Hickey,Erstad,Montpetit and Smith's numbers in USHL are in no way an indication of playing at Wisc. Grotting,Mitchell, and for the most part Bendickson and Dolan(these two put up numbers when paired with league leading scores their third team and third years) didn't put up the numbers in the USHL that Ford,Goro or Bearson did. So to say that USHL numbers of the first four players listed weren't good is laughable. Mitchell in two years had 17 points, Grotting never put up big numbers. There is no logic in Eaves' delays or playing time upon arrival.

No logic in what Eaves does, but yet somehow he has some hardware in a NC and a WJC (what other college coach has WJC gold again?). Keep on hating.

UW lost to BC 5-4. Freshman for Badgers score but remembering last years start and all the goals in Ohio not sure anything can be taken from freshman scoring in first couple of games. Cons kept Badgers in game. He could be the game determiner all year.
