NTDP U17 Roster Announced

USA Hockey officially announced their roster for next season's NTDP U17 team. Here's the roster.

An unprecedented 9 players on the team have already made college commitments. Six players on the team come from Michigan. California is sending four players to the team, plus Jacob Fallon who has also played in the Los Angeles area. Justin Faulk is the only Minnesotan on the team, though a few Minnesotan players were offered spots on the team, but chose to stay close to home. The MWEHL maintained its reputation as the NTDP's feeder league, with nearly half of the players on the team playing there last year.

Not sure what your definition of "a few" may be but five MN kids turned the NTDP down this year. The NTDP missed out on a decent percentage of their targets this year. Maybe more than they usually do.

Luckly for the NTDP, this is a deep year for the 92's.

Which five Minnesota kids turned down invites?

Anonymous said...

I know Budish did turn them down.

Three-(3) Minn. defenseman did for sure because they love Minn. high school hockey too much and will still develop just the same. Minnesota has a great hockey program, do you think Michigan could do the same? Not a chance, too many "AAA egoes" involved.

1992 Age group is the deepest group of prospects in the United in many many years. There are lots of high end players who are much better than those on the NTDP who will not be playing in Ann Arbor but the depth of the age group is so good that the U-17 NTDP will still be a strong team.

Isackson, Bjugstad, Marshall, Gardiner, and Forbort all said no from minny

I don't know about the others, but I do know Gardiner and Bjugstad turned down the invites. I think one of the those guys is a pretty good football player if I heard that right.

Its nice you mention 9 players on the team are commited but there are more than that.

Take a page out of Nathan Fourniers great blog where he shows the same list plus their drafting teams.

Quite a few of those players are also CHL drafted by WHL/ OHL teams.

Clendenning, Toronto Jr Marlies
Balisy, Toronto Jr Canadiens
Tinordi, Jr Caps

All three are London Knight draft pics and should be OHL players next season joining Jared Knight.

Gardiner is a 1990 birthdate and not eligible for the U17 or U18 team.

simon,

3 leaving the NTDP team after next season - at 50 thousand exit fee per? I'm not so sure about that...

Anonymous said...

Thats Jake 90

Max is a 92

Gardiner is a 92 birth date and is eligible for the U17 team but opted not to play there.

Thanks for posting the list of the Minnesota kids invited.

Anonymous said...

It may have been six. Not 100% on Gardiner. But I do know that Bjugstad, Isackson, Forbort, Marshall, and Rubbelke declined.

The London Knights can afford to pay that "exit fee", they were going to do it for Jared Knight and not even blink. You may have more kids leaving the national program due to "politics".

Anonymous said...

Explain which "politics" you are talking about.

Anonymous said...

I heard Pitlick also turned down an invite.

Anonymous said...

Pitlick is too old for the u17 team.

Hey simon,

Don't want to alert you or offend you or nothing... but... um...

read the name of the blog.

The word "COLLEGE" is quite prominently a part of the title of the blog.

With that being said, unless the CHL has joined the NCAA, WHO THE EFF CARES ABOUT WHO WAS DRAFTED BY THE CHL!

So, please, if you want to blow sunshine up the CHL's breezers, go for it, but do it at a CHL blog or message board. We could care less about the CHL around here.

I think that Simon makes a good point about which major junior teams own the rights of certain players as the NTDP is supposed to be a two year program and act as a segway to the pros and college hockey. However, that purpose has been minimally backtracked this year as the NTDP chose players who were not "right fits" for the program and bolted for hte major junior ranks (I am talking about the 1991 ranks). Thus, now the NTDP is learning to select players who have very minimal chacne of going to the major junior ranks, aside from Balisy and perhaps Clendenning. The NTDP has some small problems as do all programs, but they are the premiere developmental program in America and the fact that some nay sayers are saying that hte NTDP should close or is losing its touch is absolutely absurd.

Being drafted by a CHL team does not mean committed, stupid!

Anonymous said...

But it still poses a threat you idiot. You need to look at the larger picture in this case. Also, what happened to Billy Arnold? He is a BC commit and I heard that he was one of the premier players at the Select Camp. Thus, I would think that he would make the NTDP.

Sorry my point was not clear enough. Yes this is College Blog and one I enjoy following.

My point was many of these players are drafted by CHL teams that are a serious threat to " College Hockey " and their future recruiting.

To look down that list it would be foolish to be excited about a player if he is also London or Kelowna property. Kelowna have a few recruits at the NTDP so they are a bunch to follow next year.

We follow the NTDP to see what our recruits are doing. When it say's un-commited they are still available to any team for next season if they leave the NTDP program.

And a lot of them do.

"So, please, if you want to blow sunshine up the CHL's breezers, go for it, but do it at a CHL blog or message board. We could care less about the CHL around here."

Past subject matter of this blog shows that it has more than a passing interest in the CHL.

Perhaps you shouldn't assume you are in a position where you can speak for others.

Dearest Simon, First of all, I'm glad you enjoy this "COllege Hockey Blog", thank you for your interest. Secondly, the CHL is not a threat, no, not even a "serious threat" to college hockey. If the boys don't want to play hockey for their school, have fun, develop AND get an education, then let them go to the CHL. When it's all said and done and the CHL stud is a 23 year old freshman with no other options left...then go for it. If they choose the CHL route then that just gives an opportunity to another kid that wants to go to college and play hockey.

yeah they really take serious college classes they will also be starting at 23 yrs of age putting their nose to the books!

as RWR (#40) said; "there you go again jimmy"; it's almost as if the same people post the same inane diatribes about either: the shortcomongs of the ntdp; the greatness of the O; whether MN kids are the spurned or the spurners; whether it's a lean year ('90) or a great year ('91 or '92) for US talent. Is it a "deep year" ? C'mon, wait until February when nahl playoffs picture takes shape. Get a life people; post something orginal !!

I think the NDTP program should be set to sunset, and allow participants who pay the ongoing escalating dues to USAHockey, a reprieve on their fees.

3:14, you obviously have no idea how the CHL works. Players are given full ride scholarships to any canadian university when they are finished playing at the age of 19 (20 for overagers). In my home town, London, we have the University of Western Ontario which is not only one of the best schools in Canada but is ranked in the top 200 universities in the world (ahead of some american schools such as Notre Dame). Western's hockey team is loaded with former OHL players who are now pursuing their education while still playing hockey at a very high level. This happens all across the CHL in different towns. In fact, many players who are not still in high school take courses if there is a university in their teams city. For example, some London Knights take courses at Western while playing in the O. Word of advice to you and everyone who bashes the CHL for being academically inept; do your research before speaking.
