The USA Hockey National Select 16 Festival was two weeks ago in Rochester, New York. A couple of people asked if I went out there to watch. I wasn't there, though I do appreciate how much people over-estimate the budget for this site. So I don't have too much in the way of new information to add about the event, but do have a few links worth looking at.
Here were the leading scorers for the tournament, led by Belle Tire's Austin Czarnik and St. Louis' Tucker Long, with 9 points over the course of the week.
USA Hockey also picked their U17 team for the Five Nations Tournament in Slovakia. There's only three eastern players on the team; one from New York, one from New Jersey, and one from Pennsylvania.
Amateur Hockey Report also had a number of very detailed scouting reports on players at the Select 16 Festival. It sounds like forwards Christian Isackson and Max Gardiner and defenseman Stephen Johns and Frankie Simonelli made quite a good impression at the camp.
The Select 17 Festival is currently going on in St. Cloud. I'll have a pretty long write-up once the tournament is over, and will take a wild-ass stab at a draft list for next year's NHL draft. The action in St. Cloud so far has been pretty intense; not necessarily between the players, but between the officials to see who can call the most penalties. Leading scorers are here.

Bjorn Krupp is signing in the OHL. Another loss for the NDTP
Cody Murphy is rumored on his way to the NTDP, another loss for Cedar Rapids if it is true that Simonelli made the roughriders and turned them down to go to the NTDP.
Can anyone tell me why Patrick Wiercioch is listed by Heisenberg as a recruit for UW and Denver?
It looks like he decommitted at UW for 2009 and is coming to Denver in 2008.
Gee, you need a "code" for the amateur report.....how much money do you have to pay to get your name listed?
The U-17 Five nations team had four-(4) Meeeechigan players on it: Czarnik, Rust, Darnell and Preston. Way to go boys!
Bjorn is a nice boy, from a great family, but he wasn't being played there. Not a loss for the NTDP, per se. It's a tough program and some players haven't adjusted to the demands very well. Don't be surprised if there are more that opt out.
last time i checked Needham, Mass. was out east - unless you live in "east-needham" - then Needham would be out west
Bjorn was lied to.....
That is why he is leaving
Bjorn is a decent player but the 91 defense crop in the USA is weak. Its Cam Fowler and Beau Schmitz and than everybody else. If Rolston could have relied on the other defensemen besides those two Krupp would have gotten more playing time
Only reason Krupp madie it was because of his dad...he wasn't good enough to begin with...
Krupp.........another "Daddy's going to coach him" situation. He will get plenty of PP time now, but he was only average at best at NTDP. Typical kid....It's all about me!!! the apple don't fall far.......just ask the Red Wings!
Best D-pair? Fowler and Schmitz? IF you even watched a handful of games you would have seen that Mattson and Wrenn were more reliable.
Funny thing, Team Ontario beat the whole USA 3-0 in the World U17 Final....
Krupp should have played more then he did....
There are alot of other U17 players that are looking at leaving the program, and some have already left, what does that tell you?
Self centered kids, that is the message. USA smoked just about everyone, and played very well in a packed arena in London. Bring your squad for some home cookin in the USA. Krupp makes no differnce at USa or Erie, accept it.
How about the "self centered" parents, remember, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! :)
