Pateryn In, Somebody Out at Michigan

After the Fargo Force camp last weekend, head coach Dean Blais let it slip that defenseman Greg Pateryn will be joining Michigan's team next year, as opposed to a second player year in the USHL due to a player not qualifying academically for Michigan.

There were rumblings prior to this that a member of Michigan's freshman class last year might be signing a pro contract earlier than expected for academic reasons, so that could be it, but we'll have to wait for official confirmation of who is gone.

UPDATE: The Yost Post reports that as of today, Michigan hasn't lost anyone to academic troubles. So there you go.

Is Red talking about an incoming recruit, or could he also be referring to an existing player? A handful of Wolverines fall into the category of being too old for the CHL.

I can't wait for the CHL'ers to ignore the fact that the player couldn't hack it in college and make it seem like the CHL lured him away with the "fact" that the CHL is a better development league.

Quick, someone explain HIPPA to Blasie before he gets himself in trouble with the feds.

What does the Health Insurance Privacy Protection Act have to do with anything? Perhaps you mean FERPA? Though I'm not sure that applies either since Blais doesn't work at UM.

Is it possible to flunk out of Michigan? Do they let the hockey players enroll in that crap kinesiology program that their football player love?
HIPPA would not apply to Blais

Werner almost did, and did a few other things as well. Great recruiting there.
