New Commits

Eau Claire Memorial(Wis.) forward Jefferson Dahl committed to Wisconsin for the 2010 season. Dahl had a great high school season, capped off by an impressive performance at the Chicago Showcase last month.

Topeka Roadrunners defenseman Tommy Hill will be playing for Ferris State next season.

Will be interesting to see how Wisc. resolves their current NCAA non-compliance with Title IX. Look for someone to be pushed out by July. Wasn't it Eaves who spoke about recruiting early as high risk high reward to York. Who takes the risk? Who gets the reward? Wisconsin recruiting a risk for young student/athletes.

Mersch and Simonelli from TI minors and majors respectively committed to Wisc. this week. So the list grows.

"Very well put. Dahl is a perfect fit for the class of 2010. He's the nicest kid you'll ever meet."
So was Sawatske, Rowe, Leavitt

They could just pull a North Dakota and drop his scholarship if he doesn't put up good numbers in the USHL.

Weren't Sawatske and Rowe walkon's?...oh why let facts get in the way of a good rant.

Is Dahl a full scholly guy

Title IX compliance issue is with roster spots not scholarship issue. Just the facts.

Were Lil' Heatley,Slinde,Auffrey,Williams all walk-ons? Point might be that Eaves is making a name for himself in "pushing" players out. He has done this with the longtime Wisc. hockey program staff too. Just the facts. Whose the Bobby Knight of HOCKEY?

anon at 3:43...way to take something I said on uscho.com and use it to rip on me in a comment on WCH, why didn't you just say something on USCHO?

Rumor has it Dahl got 2/3 of a scholarship.

Have to love when Uncle Bearson shows up on this blog to rag on Wisconsin because his nephew doesn't get enough playing time.

What is there to resolve these are all 2010 recrutis, the junior class next season that will graduate before the 2010/2011 season will be large even if a few people (McBain, Mitchell) leave after next season. Plenty of room at the current time.

Nigel Williams made a dumb choice and left for the OHL and no one has heard anything about him since. He didn't get pushed out, he wasn't good enough to play every game in the WCHA, so he took the easy way out (for him not Wisconsin) and left.

Heatley and Slinde were in fact walk-ons. Same with Rowe and Sawatske. Auffrey was quoted as saying "Wisconsin was just too deep" so he went to the OHL and no hard feelings. That was also the year Wisconsin won it all. Williams just wasn't good enough period as a freshman. As for Leavitt, well you know the story. If he would have obeyed team curfew rules none of that would have happened.

Eaves in no way can be compared to York. York is at a private school with no chance for the recruited walk-on at instate tuition rates. You walk-on at Boston College for private school tuition. York works within the system to get top players and win. Eaves in his short tenure as become out-of control in recruiting early and often. Doen't compare the two as York out classes Eaves as a coach, mentor, and recruitor. No postive comparison in these two men.

Have to laugh at the person who thinks, "Uncle Bearson", is the only person who knows and cares about what is going on at Wisc. Only the uncle knows about the junk going on with Hickey the forced delay and then the conflict with the Wild and the CBA, , only he knows over-recruitment, only he knows about how Eaves gets rid of people, staff included. Think anyone who has watched the program during this coach's tenure knows whats up.

looking at Wisc. recruiting on the sites listing recruits, it looks to be problematic. Wisc. only loses Goro, and Street at forward next year and has a list a mile long of forward recruits coming in. On D only losses will be to the pros and again the list is a mile long. For all the defending of Wisc. there seems to be reason for negative comments no matter who the speculated source of them. Whether you support Eaves or not his recruiting strategy does appear to be flawed in a situation that puts student/athletes at risk. Seems he needs to be in a situation with contracts or held responsible by the NCAA.

Someone get uncle Bearson his meds...rumors that the Badgers may have landed 2 more verbals for '10 with maybe another right on the heels of those. Time to dig out those rosters and see which walkon's were "pushed out" of the program lol.

As for Nigel Williams, I actually had a sighting of him last week. He was playing in the Memorial Cup. He looked to have evolved into a decent player at that level. Too bad the hype on him had gotten too far ahead of the actual on ice ability. Had he not been so hyped up, he would have been content going to the USHL for a year (as the original plan was) to learn how to play D. Unfortunatley after the hype, he was too good to play in the USHL, and too good to sit behind veteran players at UW that actually knew how to play D at the college level.

Tell Eaves and Wisconsin fans about "over recruitment" when they lost Suter to the pros after he had started classes that fall, or Pavelski and Earl the same Summer. As long as kids keep jumping to the pros too early, programs will have to continue to keep the pipeline full. Wisconsin has told nearly every recruit taken over the past few years that they are an either one year or the following year depending on the needs of the program (almost every single kid is quoted as such in the Madison papers after they verbal).

On the York comments being such a class act...if that's what you want to believe...good for you. Fact is BC has had a slew of players leave for greener pastures under York as has any of the top programs. Ask the Dman he kicked off the team this past season how "classy" York is.

As to Wisconsins's need at forward going forward...Next year Gorowsky and Street both graduate. There's been some speculation that Mitchell is currently being pursued as a free agent by multiple NHL teams and there is no guarantee he will be in Madison THIS fall much less next. Throw in Geoffrion on a second round pick that took a huge step last season in his development, and it would certainly be a suprise to see him come back for his senior season. Considering Gorowsky, and Street are definately gone and Mitchell and Geoffrion would be long shots, having Lee, Montpetit, Barnes, Erstad, and Craig Smith lined up as possible replacements for '09 hardly over recruitment. Factor in that yes it is extremely likely someone currently in the program will leave this Summer (when you are the 14 or 15 forward and not playing, you leave to find playing time...sorry that's just how it works). Forney left North Dakota for the USHL because he wants to play not sit in the pressbox. Someone (or someones) will do the same in Madison this Summer also. Call it over ecruitment, or call it competition for playing time where someone will lose and that someone is not going to be happy.

Until someone actually gets pushed out my Eaves, the haters are just blowing hot air, since it was easy enough for everyone to dispute the few examples that were thrown out already.

I don't hear Chris Hickey crying about his "situation" and he was a man and called Eaves and said I need to come in this season and they made it work.

Uncle Bearson is a methapor for all the people who don't know what they are talking about yet continue to rip the program like they are experts. If you are unemployed I'm sure INCH has a job for you.

First you have no idea about the situation at BC with the suspensions and two athletes suspended from the team and your ignorance of the situation and blaming York for the situation is an embarrassment.
Second, your information on the Hickey situation obviously comes from the press release and again for you to speak on it is ignorant.
Until you have any direct knowledge of either program stay off the message boards big badger buddie.

Question for all these badger die-hards: Is it alright to push recruited walk-ons out? all this must scare the hell out of Henderson,Jeffries,Grotting, Mitchell,Dolan, C.Johnson, Springer and the rest. Too bad if they have too many on the roster you are now expendiable. Love the logic of these badgers. Way to build a team!!!

Anonymous said...

Ummmmmmmmmmmmm, Grotting, Mitchell, Dolan, and Springer are all on partial scholarships. Gotta love your logic that you can't get your facts straight!! Try again.

everyone gets something or they can't do the training table. ask these players themselves it is about the same as Sawatske, Rowe, etc.

Sorry, but I know one of the kids that York launched very well, so nice spin control. The punishment from the grand gentleman of Chestnut Hill does not anywhere near fit the "crime", but hey he won a title and is "classy".

Jefferies and Henderson? Are you freaking kidding me trying to bring them into this conversation? A couple of kids that MAY play a period of an exhibition game and came to UW knowing their chances of seeing the ice in a meaningful game was about as likely as the guy that wears the Bucky mascot outfit being asked to suit up. Not trying to be disrespectful to either of those kids as they play a role in allowing the team to practice hard and not beating on your 2 front line goalies, but really please you need to stop the nonsense. Walkons know what the score is when they take the gig. For every success story like Mithcell, there are a dozen kids that will seldom if ever see the ice and they are also the most likely to go when the numbers don't work

CRIME. Enough said if their was a CRIME punishment fits. have to be in legal good standing to remain on scholarship at most schools especially at BC. Mich. also let someone goes due to CRIME.

Quit being a total tool...there was no "crime", it's a figure of speech.
