Kalinski Signs

Minnesota State junior forward Jon Kalinski will be signing with the Philadelphia Flyers, who drafted him late in the draft last summer.

His offensive numbers dipped a bit this past season from his breakout sophomore season. He went from 17 goals and 10 assists as a sophomore to just 8 goals and 10 assists as a junior. But Kalinski was arguably a better overall player this season, as one of the WCHA's best penalty killers and face-off men.

I'm sad to see him go.... but excited to watch him pursue his pro career. What an amazing player and asset he has been to the Mavericks over the last three years! Good luck Jon!

Can Andreas Nodl be too far behind him in regard to signing a deal? If the Flyers want to sign a 6th rounder from 2007 like Kalinski, I would imagine a better player like Nodl coming from the 2nd round in 2006 would likely be a guy they will offer a deal to this off-season too.

I agree with the above comment. The Mavs will bounce back, but I know that I will really miss watching Jonny. Good luck!

Flyers have now signed 5 collegeians already. I know they want Nodl but Nodl clearly isn't ready. He's disappeared for SCSU in every big game, he also needs to learn to have a bigger killer instinct.

Rumor has it if nodl signs Lasch might be signing too. Not good for SCSU.

I think you're just wishing Nodl won't want to sign. If they wanted to sign Kalinski (8g 10a), then Nodl (18g 20a) seems like slam-dunk to go. After all how much is he going to improve in big games when SCSU seems incapable of winning one.

Don't blame you for hoping but it's a slim hope, at best.

It isn't just about scoring when signing players. The teams also look at how they are developing into the players the team wants them to be. Kalinski's scoring dropped but he turned into a more complete player. Nodl's scoring dropped and he didn't progress much in other areas of his game either.
Earlier this year he said Philly scouts want to see a more consistent effort night in and night out from him before they'd take him. I doubt they have seen that.
But as they say, money talks and bullshit walks.
If he doesn't sign in the next 2 weeks though, the odds will keep getting better that he's going nowhere.

Lasch is undrafted...where the heck is he going if Nodl leaves? Or are you just stirring the pot? Hmmmmm.

Undrafted means he can sign with anybody that wants to negotiate with him. Seems pretty easy to figure that out but maybe not for everybody!

Latch being undrafted means that he's MORE likely to leave, all it takes is one team being interested to offer a contract, rather then one specific team. Considering how poor some teams farm systems are one has to wonder why more of the undrafted colege players are not offered. It's not like the costs to the team are all that great, in the grand scheme of things a few thousand dollers is nothing to most NHL teams.

If Lasch is undrafted then he can sign with whomever he wants. See also; Duncan, Ryan

Lasch isn't going anywhere...bunch of internet rubes from other teams stirring the pot. They always come out with their "theories" this time of year.

Ask Wisconsin fans how those "theories" worked out for them when Piskula signed last Summer. Undrafted players that have developed and suprise in college are a huge flight risk.
