Cunti Returns to Switzerland

St. Cloud State forward Luca Cunti still hasn't received clearance from the NCAA and the St. Cloud Times is reporting that Cunti returned to Switzerland. Head coach Bob Motzko said it was "highly unlikely" that Cunti would ever play for St. Cloud. When Cunti returns to the US after the holiday, it's likely that he'll join the Chicago Steel in the USHL.

The issue with Cunti's amateur status comes from playing 12 games in a Swiss men's league, where Cunti was not paid to play hockey, but other players may have been.

How in the hell does the appeals process take 3 months?
This is a kids career, you'd think they could move faster than that.

If this was a Notre Dame football player or a Duke bouncyballer, do you think this process would have taken this long? Nice job NC$$!

God bless the NCAA...without them playing watchdog, some evil Swiss kid might actually try to get a US college education while playing hockey. Oh, the horror!

Rastislav Spirko played an entire season in the Slovak Extraliga before his year in the USHL (He was actually rookie of the year in that league). Why does he get through yet Cunti doesn't?

I would be willing to bet it is some woman at the NCAA who is concerned about the sexist nature of his name. After the whole Native American mascot issue, they have to have something else to police. Look for them to press for South Carolina to change their nickname. Also, Dick Vitale will have to be referred to as Richard. And finally, no longer will a two-piece hockey stick have a shaft, but rather, it will be referred to as the "willing acceptor of the blade:" =)
