Tough Times in Fairbanks

It was bound to be a rough transition for Alaska when head coach Tavis MacMillan resigned after last season and Doc DelCastillo took over, but it's hard to imagine that transition being this rough.

Alaska lost to Michigan tonight 4-0, to drop their record to 0-5-0 on the season with only 8 goals in those 5 games.

To make matters worse, the Nanooks have also lost two players from the team this year.

Junior Justin Binab left the hockey team last week, saying his head was no longer in the game. Then today, sophomore Jeff Lee signed with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the OHL.

It's not completely shocking to see these departures. The players leaving the program were recruited under the old regime, and seem vastly different than the types of players DelCastillo has been recruiting. If anything, this may make Alaska's transition go a little quicker thanks to the quicker roster turnover.
