Fights!

If somebody had come up to me on Friday afternoon and said, "Hey, there's going to be two huge fights this weekend. Who do you think will start them?" I would have quickly responded with "North Dakota and the Russians"(FWIW, that's also the answer to "Which two teams are run by the Mafia?"). So without further ado:

North Dakota fights Wisconsin.

I don't have a huge problem with Rylan Kaip's hit. The slo-mo replay shows that it's a pretty clean hit. He keeps his elbows down and doesn't charge. It was dumb when Jack Johnson got suspended for hitting a guy too hard, and it would be dumb for Kaip to get suspended for hitting a guy too hard. He did put his hands in Brendan Smith's face after the hit, so I was fine with him getting an extra two out of the deal.

Matt Watkins wild left hook, on the other hand, was just plain unsporting. There's no fight without that punch, so if anything further comes from this, it should probably go to him. And this was like the second or third time I've seen Zach Jones try to get a fighting major and only end up with a 10-minute misconduct. The kid needs to hit the heavy bag or something.

And Russia fights the US at the U17 Four Nations Cup.

I can't really tell what started it. I'm sure there was some frustration on the US side though, that Russia ended up with a 12-2 powerplay advantage, and were also given a penalty shot, on their home ice. The Russians scored both their goals on the powerplay in the 2-1 win. Props to BC recruit Brandon Maxwell though. For a goalie, that kid can really throw.

I knew CMT was getting away from broadcasting purely Country Music Television, but this is quite a stretch.

There's also no Watkins left hook without Turris slashing him in the wrist.

Speaking of CMT, is Kelly Pickler still praying for the Predators now that Jordin reportedly cheated on her?

Didn't Miami and Notre Dame get into fight Saturday night? You probably could've still used the mafia joke given Blasi's Italian background. I have no idea who started the fight, but I heard a couple players will be out of the next game. But, no mention here? hmm...

I thought the hostile and abusive ones were run by Nazis.

Even with Turris' slash, Watkins' reaction was totally uncalled for and came at the worst possible time (right after Kaip's hit).

Was it just me or did the teenage Americans get their butts kicked. Our children are becoming softies. Well at least the Cold War is over.

Easy to say for you, buddy. They played very hard, and got corn holed by the smelly Ruskies. They should have taken a few shots at the refs. Wasn't a Cannada Cup game, when the coaches took those maple boys off the ice for the same thing? it smells fishy to me!

Just heard from several players parents that it was an all out brawl and we did get the better of most the fights. Not that the parents condoned it or felt good about it. But the video you see is from a Dimitrov Russian TV station and of course its their we are the cmapions video, so they showed their best fights.
They said it was kind of sa Russian players were crying and players from both teams were bleeding all over the ice. It was much worse than the video showed. Homered this bad or not is this right???

All things being equal...

It's a shame that the referee's had to blatantly call the game so one sided. The US team still outshot them even with 12 power plays for the Russians and only 2 for the US (not to mention a penalty shot for Russia). Both Russian goals were on the power play, so no doubt, the refs were the difference. I also heard that the US got by far the better of fights. There will be a rematch in London, Ontario, at the end of December. The Russians better be ready!

Lots of foul smells I say!

Yeah that slash Turris did happens just about happens every minute in a college or pro game. Watkins reaction was horrid.

The USA-Russia U17 fight went on for 10 minutes, and what you saw was major editing on the part of the Russian media. One of their players was sent to the hospital.

Referees were as you might expect one-sided; 12-2 penalties in favor of them.

Real test will be at Christmas when the both play again in a neutral site - London, ON

How does that old saying go? ...Revenge is a dish best served cold. That should be one interesting game!

I am a Badger fan and was watching the game, and have since watched the melle about 10 times. Turris' slash was pretty vicious, and having played the game I may have reacted the same. His trying to trip the guy in the altercation was pathetic. I thought Canadiens knew how to scuffle. I did enjoy Turnbull's slam of LaPointe.

I am a Sioux fan and was watching the game, and have since watched the melle about 10 times. Turris' slash was pretty petty, it happens a lot during games and having played the game I may have reacted the same. Watkins trying to take Turris's head off was pretty pathetic. I thought Canadiens knew how to scuffle. I didn't enjoy Turnbull's slam of LaPointe.

Who is LaPointe. They don't have anyone with that name on the roster.

If you would have asked me who would've been in a fight, I would have guessed Minnesota. Living in Gopher Land, therefore seeing more of them play than anyone else, they've been a pretty scrappy team this year. No big "brawls", but they're definitely a fighting team.

Typical Bucky,

They like to talk the talk but can't walk the walk

Mattson stands there and watches a teammate get pummeled. I wonder who he will play for in the NCAA

Minnesota will always be the team with 17 pussies, one tough guy, and two shitty goalies.
