Detroit Compuware forward Luke Moffatt met with Michigan coach Red Berenson last night and verbally committed to the University of Michigan.
Moffatt originally hails from the Phoenix-area, and is considered the best 1992-born forward in the United States. Moffatt has already accepted an offer to play for the NTDP next season, where he will play for two years before joining the Wolverines.
Earlier this past summer, Moffatt was selected second overall by the Kelowna Rockets in the WHL bantam draft, but ended up opting to go the NCAA route.
Moffatt had offers from many schools including Boston College, Maine, Notre Dame, and Colorado College.
Here is an article from the Phoenix Coyotes website on Moffatt.
(After looking around the web, apparently The Scouting News was the first to report this, so credit goes to them.)

all this means is that IF Moffatt goes to college he will go to Michigan. He will end up in the WHL where he belongs - a direct route to the NHL.
sigh, more CHL crowing about the direct route.
Please forgive CHL fan.... bad gene pool...
Right, because every CHL player automatically gets an NHL contract, obviously.
It's funny how much CHLers love trolling this blog. It's like they have nothing better to do in their spare time.
Moffatt must really want to go the college route. Obviously the Moffatt's approached Michigan about playing because there are rules about schools recruiting underage players. SSSSSURE!!! How was that meeting set up?
Ahh, the Wolverines nab another blue chippah. Let's hope that Michigan wins the big one soon.....I hate to see all that talent going to waste year after year.
Um...the meeting was probably set up the same way Jack Johnson committed as an underager and all the others who have committed to U-M for '09 and '10. Coaches can't contact the players, but if the player makes first contact with the coach, then it's okay and they can talk and know where things stand. That's what Jack said he did and that opened the floodgates.
and its exactly how St. Cloud got Nick Oliver last October.
He contacted Motzko and said he wanted to come and that was it.
I have heard a lot of talk about moffatt being the best player in he usa, but after watching him play this year at NTDP, I would rank him 5th or 6th best forward.
