Elliot Olshansky writes about John MacInnes. I suppose I owe MacInnes a debt of gratitude as well because, in addition to his illustrious hockey career at Michigan and Michigan Tech, MacInnes also started the Ann Arbor Amateur Hockey Association.

I wrote about Minnesota State's top moments of 2006-2007. Yes, there were some, wise-ass.

On Frozen Blog suggests that Washington D.C. try to get a USHL team. It's an intriguing idea, though probably not practical in the short term, as the USHL is still a bus league for the most part, and D.C. is over 400 miles away from the USHL's eastern outpost of Columbus. I'd also be a little skeptical of a team operating in a big city, as Chicago hasn't been all that successful.

A better long-term solution, in my mind, would be the creation of a Tier I Junior A league along the east coast for top Eastern kids. That would open up some more spots for kids to play top junior hockey, and allow eastern kids to stay closer to home.

Michigan's Ben Winnett taped Michigan stripes on his helmet as a youth.

I do wonder if there was a eastern Tier 1 league, if it would kill original sites of the USHL.
I think that if the players had a choice they would choose an eastern team before a midwest team, making it more difficult for current teams to recruit top players.
Already you see players choosing to stay closer to the east coast ( Jimmy Hayes, Mike Cichy) than opt for the midwest or players going the CHL route (Pat Kane).

Has the USHL given a decent effort to developing youth programs in their respective areas?
There seems to be a small number of players ( most recently Bruneteau, Dewhurst)come from those areas but one would think that the numbers would be more significant.

What are you smoking?

Tier 1 on the East coast.... NEWS FLASH, The East coast already has 2 Jr A loops. And it costs kids $7,000-$10,000 a yr to play in them. Why do they pay ? No one goes to watch the games, so the clubs have to charge make up the $$. So why would the owners blow $1 millon each yr just to say "Hey we are Tier 1". It won't make players any better.
Tier 1 is a Joke. Tier 1 is the biggest waste of money. The USHL owners don't want Tier 1. They don't want to shell out all that money year after year.

Please tell me what Tier 1 is or why we have it in the US?????

Anon 2:04,
What would your solution be?

solution ? solution to what. STOP adding teams.

The Ushl should stay at 12 teams. Thats it. Don't thin out the teams.

I think that the CHL would argue that Tier 1 hockey in the US works well. And I dont think that they would say that Tier 1 is a waste of money.
I last heard that the OHL was looking to put a team in the Auburn Hills area.
If the USHL would pattern itself after the CHL a little more they would probably have more success.
If the USHL or the two JR A leagues would put on a better display of their product (Proper facilities, present well, CHL "like") players would not nor should they be paying.

THE USHL IS A LOOOONG WAY FOR BEING LIKE THE CHL.

JUST TAKING THE NAME TIER 1 DOSN'T MAKE THE HOCKEY ANY BETTER.

THE BCHL TIER "2" HAD THE FIRST 2 COLLEGE BOND PLAYERS TAKEN IN THE NHL DRAFT THIS YEAR.

USHL IS STILL LOSING THE BATTLES FOR PLAYERS WITH MINNESOTA HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY.

THE USHL SHOULD ENTER THE ROYAL BANK CUP. ITS FOR THE BEST TIER 2 JR TEAMS ACROSS CANADA.

When you say that the USHL is a LOOOOONG way off from the CHL, what exactly do you mean?

anon 4:41 is saying, in caps, long hand, that:

"CHL rulz, USHL droolz"

I even spelled it properly for him.

Just the usual rhetoric from a horse that was beaten to death 5 years ago.

Just wondering of he would care to put a score up, indicating how far the two are apart.
