Very interesting picks. Seems a little west coast bias. No kids from the pacific district were picked and there some that were deserving. Dosen't give hope to kids on the west coast. Are the kids in the east that much better? National championships recently won the west dosen't matter I guess.
What happenend to Mitch Wahl and Ben Hanowski?
sure looks a little fishy leaving wahl off the roster, the kid is an amazing talent.always performs well in the big tournements.
USA hockey officials must of wanted Wahl to kiss their butts in a certain way to be on the team.
Wahl is not the only player from the west that was overlooked. There were others that were just as deserving as he was and didn't get the nod.
Chris,
Great job with the report you did. Nice to see the future Gophers were impressive.
Maybe the reason why is that he dosen't perform well in big tournamnets. Didn't have a very good 4 nations tourney last year. Last year's 4 nations seems to be the deciding factor.
Did not play in the 4 nations due to an injury, concussion i think. Did notice his point totals in the WHL last year were equal to Jenks, Mcrae, and King's totals combined. WOW...interesting
point totals have nothing to do with it. Besides both those players were on older and very deep teams and playing time was hard to come by.
you people kill me that live and die by point totals. It's how you play and think the game.
with or without the deserving west coast kids, this team will get smoked by Canada anyway. Too much talent to overtake.....
If you think that Wahl has no hockey sense, you probably dont know much about the game.
As for having no chance at the u-18 world cup, usa is going to get smoked by canada?
Try giving us a prediction of the score (if they play).
Are you saying 10 goals or?
its how u play and think the game goes without saying ,in most cases the high production players are the smartest players on the ice.
wahl is an exceptional player and he got snubbed for whatever reason.
wahl will be a first round pic in 08 regardless of his non-selection.
That should be his focal point.
It is possible that he snubbed the NTDP when previously asked.
USA has a long memory.
It is one thing that I would like USA hockey re-evaluate their position on.
If USA hockey had a long term memory, then they would have remembered Jenks who backstabbed the NTDP program a year ago.
LOL many athletes including Jenks have had a change in direction and decided against that route. Not exactly backstabbing...he's a great kid.
This happens all the time...so stop your whining it's only working yourself up buddy.
So you are saying that Mitch Wahl is a horrible hockey player?
Wow, you must really have great insight into the game. LOL
Comment on select 17. Reddin will be returning to the NTDP for his 18U team and will not be going to the WHL. It is true that the Winterhawks would love to have him this season, but he is pursuing the college route. a scout
who cares
Is Reddin able to go the college route as he already signed with the winterhawks?
excellent player. scout
According to NCAA guidlines, they say that if a player signs a pro contract their NCAA eligibility is gone. It also says that they consider the CHL professional. So if he did sign with the winterhawks wouldn't that make him ineligible by signing a pro contract? Seems fairly black and white to me. Maybe the NCAA decides which players they will bend rules for and just give him the old 1 year suspension. And people say Major Junior is corrupt.
each case is handled individually .gkfoxu
My exact point. They pick and choose which players they will bend rules for. If the player is still young and has a few years of junior eligibilty left and is being recruited by a Major Junior team then they will bend the rules to keep him out of Major Junior. If a player is 19 or 20 then it's oh well. Just like you said each case is handled individually.
Whoever said snubbing the USNDTP will haunt you later on is dead on correct. They don't seem to mind the players the turn them down in order to win a hs state title(Paul Martin, Bourque, etc.) or the good multi-sport athletes(McDonaugh and also Martin), but when players snubbed them to opt to play in the CHL or USHL they hate this. Sort of like the top Canadiens getting shorted(most, but not all) to make the Canadien Nat. Junior team. I remember Toews specifically singling this out about being so cautious in attending UND. In the end it turned out well for him, but for most not. Mike Comrie and Duncan Keith are great examples of this. And it's probably going to effect Brendan Smith this year as well.
Everyone is absolutly correct about fishy! Several kids in the top 5 looked and played great and were not even mentioned. Just because they were in the West and have not been scouted before doesn't mean they weren't deserving. #15 Singleton who many have never heard of before had a great showing and played extremly well around the puck and away from the puck.
Even with the goalies it looks political. Musico from California had the best statistics and only allowed 2 goals the whole camp (both were on the last day) and was still not chosen. It was 2 goalies from MINNESOTA! Remeber the days when you played for your own district at the national festival. If I'm correct the last year it was played in that format was the 84' birth year team. Who won it? Oh yeah, the Pacific District with the likes of Gabe Gauthier and Brett Sterling. I guess USA Hockeys way of making sure that doesn't happen was by splitting up the players.
Ok based on camp performance who shouldn't be on it?
And why?
Why wasnt Zach Bogosian at camp?
good question
