Goalies

I haven't spent a lot of time actually covering college hockey lately, and since I'm hanging out at home over Memorial Day weekend thanks to gas being $8 a gallon, I figured I'd try to write about college hockey.

I'll start by going over the goaltending situation at each of the 22 schools. Click here for the CCHA, and click here for the WCHA.

Hmmm....predicting Frazee to get the post-season starts...what a bold prediction.

I think the WCHA's goaltending situation from top to bottom is very solid. There aren't many #1 goaltenders in the WCHA that I think wouldn't easily take over the #1 role on nearly any other team in D1. Olthuis will be solid. MTU will be a tough win for anyone (can you believe that?).

I only half agree with you Chris on UND. Phillippe Lamoreaux isn't the best goaltender UND has had nor is he the best in the WCHA, even for this year. However he's very good. His main issues are 1. emotions and 2. 5 hole.

Phillippe is the most emotional goaltender I've ever seen at UND. He may be the most emotion-prone goaltender still playing regularly in the WCHA. It is his worst enemy BY FAR. 5 hole is something I've noted. He gets beaten 5 hole more than I think a goaltender should. True, many of them were on deflections, but I HAVE to think that if his stick was positioned correctly (square to the shooter like his body and on the ice) at least some of those would have been stopped (at least initially).

There are so many ways posters here could shoot that statement down it's not even funny. The most notable one was done right after your post.

Maybe, before we compare which conference is better, you should take reading comprehension courses to help with.. you know... understanding what it is you are reading?

Just a thought.

buddy, i know this is the "WESTERN" college hockey blog, but there is NO "EASTERN" college hockey blog someone needs to make one

Well why bitch at a guy who watches the west and covers the west because he LIVES in the west.

Shouldn't you be bitching at your eastern counterparts? Or maybe, if you are so hung up on it, why don't YOU start it?

Emotions by goalie almost cost UND a few time. Batting the puck down the ice was one that comes to mind.

MacIntyre @ Ferris outplayed O'Keefe when he was finally given playing time, could sign a pro contract to enable Nagle more playing time. Head to head, Nagle will beat out O'keefe for playing time.
