According to the Chicago Steel, Cloquet HS goalie Reid Ellingson has committed to Northern Michigan for next season.
Ellingson was the top senior goalie in Minnesota HS hockey last season, and could be a high draft pick in the NHL draft this summer.

it looks like Heisenberg has him for 2008.
The Steel press release says he's committed for 2007.
hmm, one's wrong!!!
now Heisenberg has him for 07.
why would that kid go to northern michigan in 07' without playing any juniors? he has a goalie that has 2 years of college hockey at Ohio State and a year in the USHL coming in at the same time as him. not wise
NMU has Brian Stewart returning (who played very well when he got a chance at the end of last season), Ian Keserich transferring from Ohio State, Ellingson, and apparently Derek Janzen is returning as well (he came in two years ago, didn't play much, went back to juniors and is supposedly returning to NMU, though I haven't seen any hard confirmation). That would give them four goalies who could all be starters (though I didn't care for Janzen in his brief stint). I don't know what Walt Kyle is trying to do, but I don't think you can play more than one goalie at the same time.
He plans on trading one of them to Michigan.
is that a serious comment?
Give me a break. The kid is not going to NMU in 2007. There is a huge difference between chatter vs. acutal written commitments on paper. I'd just post commitments that are in writing, not rumors. This site is excellent, and a heck of a lot better than most newspapers, but no need to post rumors. I'm still waiting for Kyle Kramer to attend NMU based on reading info. from this site a year ago. Capeche....
I'm not sure I'd classify it as a rumor, seeing as how there are two different sources saying it's for 2007.
Besides, what better place than a blog to post rumors?
How can you say Chris is posting a rumor when he got his information from the Chicago Steel press release? The Ellingson rumor actually popped up a few weeks ago in the NMU thread on USCHO. The Steel just confirmed it.
If Ellingson was going to spend a year in juniors before heading to NMU, why would the Chicago Steel announce they have RELEASED him?
Keserich isn't coming to NMU and never was. He inquired intially and never actually signed or was asked to sign a letter of intent.
Janzen, Stewart and Ellingson are the goalies NMU will have this fall on the ice and Stewart will be the starter (albeit he's academically elegible) and the others will battle him for ice time. I give Ellingson the edge over Janzen and have him splitting time with Stewart by December.
Stewart is not academically ineligible. He had academic troubles for a portion of last season and didn't see the ice because of it, but everything is fine now.
Omg Reid Ellingson is my favorite player he totally rox! go green bay gamblers
i ♥ ellingson!
