Youso Commits to Minnesota

International Falls HS forward Jake Youso committed to Minnesota. Youso will be a senior next year, and will join the Gophers in 2008 or 2009. He's probably one of the smoothest skaters in Minnesota for his age group.

It's good to see Lucia scouer the whole state of MN to get quality players. Unlike Lucia's predecessor who only looked to the Lake Conferences for most of his players.

the real question is what color does he prefer to frost his hair with

Well said hoss. It's nice to see the whole state being actively recruited. Youso and Ness are impressive players . Glad they will be wearing Maroon and Gold.

One of Woog's problems was he didn't recruit enough in the Lake Conference. Too many stiffs from St. Paul and St. Paul suburbs.

John and Jim Hillman, Brent Godbout, Dave Grannis, Dan Woog, Jeff Pauletti to name a few. If Woog would have worked the Lake conference he might have gotten Paul Ranheim, Joe Bianchi, Chris Tucker, Taj Melson, Toby Peterson, Karl Goehring, Mark Parrish to name a few.

Woog recruited a lot of good players but let way too many slip away, especially from the Lake Conference. (Hoss, there is only ONE Lake Conference)

Actually rr, most of the years when Woog coached, the Lake Conference was split into two divisions (Red and Blue). Then they changed it into two different conferences. The Lake Conference and the Classic Lake Conference. So I would gather this is what Hoss was discussing.

rr anonymous 12:45PM posted the two Lake conferences I was referring to when Woog coached. As for Woog getting Ranheim I believe he played at Wisconsin as a freshman in the 1984-1985 season. This would have been 1 year before Woog took over so Woog wouldn't have had a chance to recruit Ranheim.

how gay is it when a team all dyes their hair to match in the playoffs?

Hoss,

Got me on Ranheim. Buetow missed him. But the point I made still stands. Woog missed a lot of good players from the Lake conference. He also recruited a lot of suspect players from the Lake Conference too.

Joe Pankratz, Rico Pagel, John LaBatt, Danny Hendrickson, Mike Anderson. I agree, there were a lot of better guys in other conferences than these guys. The other examples I listed were really weak as well.

Woog's problem wasn't where he got his players from really. Woog lacked the ability to coach in big games. He was unable to adapt to what the other teams were doing and would often panic. Towards the end Woog was just a basket case.

Had he stuck around any longer there were players that would have gone elsewhere. Such as Paul Martin who would have ended up at UND.

Pankratz was the second leading scorer in the Lake as a sophomore and won a state championship! He left to play in the USHL his junior/senior seasons as a 16 year old. He was all-rookie as well as an all-star team member while playig against 19/20 year olds. USA 16's Team, 17's, and World Junior Team. Find a better player!!
