USA Hockey's National Championships were held this past weekend.
In the Tier I U16 division, host Detroit Belle Tire beat Shattuck-St. Mary's 2-1 to win the national championship.
The leading scorer for the tournament was Mike Collins from the South Shore Dynamos(Mass.), with 9 points in 4 games. Second was Ferris State commit Beau Schmitz, with 8 points in 6 games. The Detroit Free Press had an interesting article on Belle Tire goalie Joe Rogers, who plays goal despite not having use of his catching hand. It sounds like a pretty incredible story.
Shattuck-St. Mary's took home the Tier I U18 title, defeating the Cape Cod Whalers 5-2. David Toews led the tournament in scoring with 10 points in 6 games. I get the feeling that he'll be committing to North Dakota pretty soon.
It looks like all the Shattuck kids that have committed to colleges had a decent tournament. I think the only non-Shattuck kid that is committed to a western college is Belle Tire's Charlie Smith, who committed to Northern Michigan. He had 2 goals and an assist in four games.
