The Three Amigos

North Dakota's Jonathan Toews and T.J. Oshie both changed their pleas from not guilty to guilty last week, as part of a plea agreement. The general idea was that when they pleaded not guilty a few months back, it was so that they could reach a plea agreement at a later time.

Toews, who had been charged with underage drinking before at Minnesota, received some community service, court costs, and a 10-day suspended sentence which he won't have to serve if he stays out of trouble for the next year.

Oshie received unsupervised probation for a year and court costs.

Robbie Bina's case remains unresolved. He stuck with his not guilty plea, and will have a pretrial conference on May 10.

Thats too funny; them Canadians are trouble makers. Kind of like the racist their building is named after.

Hopefully Bina goes to Jail for a few days. Some No. Dak hick named Bubba will make him a man.

The previous poster is all class. Oshie is an American and the building is not racist.

No, it was just built by a racist Nazi-lover.

Hey Anonymous 8:47/7:41

Take your moronic bs back to The Daily Kos where you will be among like minded fools. You add nothing to the discussion. You are not funny and you are not making any points other than you are a small minded little girl.

Speaking ill of the dead only reveals your lack of character. You are perpetuating a dishonest characterazation of someone that accomplished a lot in his lifetime and contributed in a positive way more than you ever will in your trivial lifetime.

It is not speaking ill of the dead to point out that Ralph had Nazi parties celebrating Hitler's birthday. At which autographed portraits were displayed.

"On one wall was a life-size portrait of Hitler inscribed “To Ralphie from Adolf, 1939.” On the other wall was a portrait of Engelstad Wearing a Nazi uniform. inscribed “To Adolf from Ralphie.” "

It is merely reporting the truth, which cost Engelstad $1.5 million in fines from the Nevada gaming industry. Supporting a scumbag because he spent over $100 million on a hockey arena is not my idea of character. His accomplishments are forever stained by this despicable and traitorous behavior. Almost 200,000 American servicemen were killed trying destroy the Hitler's Nazi regime. Millions more British, Russian, Poles, Canadians and many other nationalities made like sacrifice to end Hitler's reign. If celebrating Hitler is your idea of character, then I'm happy to be lacking it.

What you write may or may not be true. What does it in fact have to do with Toews, Oshie and Bina? And why do you feel compelled to come onto a site devoted to Western College Hockey to recycle "news" about a man that has been dead for quite some time?

Did you get as upset when Bill Clinton put on blackface and an afro wig at a party? Are you upset that Harry Reid has stated the war in Iraq is lost, when it clearly isn't.

Save your indignant rant about Ralph Englestad for the kook web sites you frequent. As Nietzche said: "There is no one that lies so much as the indignant man". He saw you coming.

rr, even the most rabid sioux fans would think comparing what Bill Clinton did and what Harry Ried said to Ralph Englestad idolizing Adolf Hitler and throwing nazi parties is a bit of a stretch.

Anonymous said...

By citing incidents where Bill Clinton and Harry Reid were involved I was illustrating the absurdity of Anon8:47 with absurdity. To continually bring this up is turning bad judgement into some sort of urban legend about how RE "Idolized Hitler". Get real, who in their right mind would actually believe that? If that were actually true then why are the Fighting Sioux playing hockey there? If it were true don't you think the NCAA would insinuate themselves into that situation as well?

Saying that RE idolized Hitler is a slander on Mr. Englestad. RE can be charged with poor judgement and bad taste but to continually vilify the man and lie about him serves no useful purpose.

The original comment was an assinine statement that had nothing to do with Toews, Oshie and Bina. What was Anon.8:47's point other than to slander RE.

It is apparent that Anon 8:47 doesn't like UND, RE, et al. Maybe it makes him feel like a real man to come to a site devoted to WESTERN COLLEGE HOCKEY and call somebody a racist. Big deal. Is Anon 8:47 a student in St. Cloud?

I've found that the people that are predisposed to call other people racists and bigots are usually the racists and bigots themselves, projecting their own bigotry onto the world around them. He even offers up his very own example of his own bigotry in refering to "Some North Dakota hick named Bubba".

Buddy, take your hate and bigotry elsewhere. Like the Daily Kos or Democrat Underground where you will be among like minded "Progressive" thinkers.

"Speaking ill of the dead only reveals your lack of character."

So having a party in honor of a dead guy who was the scum of the earth shows good character? "rr" needs to shut his ignorant yap and not make a bigger fool of himself than he already has.

That is funny stuff there. your right it is the type of crap that you would read on the Daily Kos, the same web page that took personal shots at Tony Snow after he was sick with cancer again. Total class.

I agree with rr, what good does it do to post crap about a guy that is dead. Whatever.

If anyone is indignant that would be you. I am merely pointed out UND tolerated awful behavior from the man who built their arena and has his name all over it. I like how every act of Clinton and Reid is unvarnished truth but with Engelstad it's baseless accusation. Engelstad had birthday parties for Adolf Hitler, the man who started WWII and murdered millions in the Holocaust. And somehow in your mind this equates to Harry Reid expressing an opinion you don't agree with and Bill Clinton allegedly engaging in racist behavior.

That Engelstad was fined for having birthday parties for Hitler is a matter of public record. It is not slander to say that Engelstad idolized Hitler because the truth is a defense against slander. Do you have birthday parties for people you don't like? Do you have birthday parties for Stalin and Mao? Do you dress in Soviet and Chinese communist regalia?

Engelstad was a Nazi-lover, if that is admirable to you, so be it. We are judged by the company we keep. Thanks for Nietzche quote, Adolph would be so proud and somewhere Ralph is probably smiling too. Next time how about a quote from Heidegger.

Anon 4:40,

Again, what purpose do you serve by coming onto a site devoted to WESTERN COLLEGE HOCKEY with your slanted opinions, that you present as unassailable facts concerning Ralph Englestad?

You really are beating a dead horse by even bringing it up. You state things such as he "idolized Hitler" and that he was a "Hitler lover". Right.

Does it bother you at all that liberals such as Danny Glover and Stephen Spielberg, Ted Kennedy,John Kerry, Tom Harkin, Barbara Boxer et al "Idolize" Fidel Castro? Got a problem with that? I do.

Liberals in America can't wait to impose their brand of socialism on America. Got a problem with that? I do.

Ralph Englestad may have been guilty of poor judgement and bad taste but to continually push the notion that he was in fact a closet Nazi is a slander.

What exactly is your purpose in doing your little drive by slander? Other than to slander someone that is dead, who can't respond. Who else do you target with that sort of crap?

One of my favorite quotes from Marx applies to you. (Groucho, that is) "He may look like an idiot and talk like an idiot but don't let that fool you. He really is an idiot".

(Sorry Chris for taking this off topic, but the nazi crap really gets old)

Anonymous said...

rr, you have a problem with Barbara Striesand and Co. idolizing Fidel Castro and yet you don't have a problem with Ralph Englestad idolizing Adolph Hitler? You seem to be taking this topic way too personally and I'm getting the feeling that you were a regular attendee at these nazi parties.

Anonymous said...

C'mon people, this thing was Godwinned (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law) from post #1. Let it go.

Anonymous said...

You seem to not understand one was doing something as satire. a joke. Not a serious depiction of reality. The other group is serious. You figure out which is which.

Anonymous said...

i just think its funny that people who hate und as being a premier hockey program have to degrade the arena and the players just because they have 7 national championships and most of you crying bout ralph have less then 5 you think it'll make you feel better bout your team and your stature in the college hockey world. us in north dakota have done nothing and neither have the players so dont take it out on them.

I never said Engelstad was a closet Nazi, those are your words. I referred to him as a Nazi-lover. Since the party and resulting fine it is a matter of public record with Nevada gaming commission, it's de facto truth. We'll never know what Engelstad real feelings were, but it's what individuals do when they think nobody is looking which is the real measure of that person's character.

You have shown how pathetic your argument is by continually dragging liberals into tar and feather with what is certainly at best hearsay. I deplore Castro, Mao, Pol Pot, and Stalin and those who support them. The difference is I also deplore Hitler and the scum who would celebrate his birthday. The university you support knew what Engelstad had done and caved into his wishes. They have live with the stain that having Engelstad's name on the building brings. UND's hockey tradition is beside the point. Your arena is named after a man who venerated one of the biggest mass murderers in history. I understand that you are okay with this, but I'm not.

I think it's a stretch to apply Godwin's law to this discussion. No poster was called a "Nazi" rather Engelstad was called a Nazi-lover. Considering his behavior this seems appropriate. Godwin's law generally allows debate.

In American courts truth is a defense against slander. Though this would be libel because it written.

Since rr likes quotes so much how about this one. Probably more of a paraphrase though since I don't feel like searching for the exact quote.

"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt."

Mark Twain I believe.

Thanks for speaking rr.

Hey Anon.

just waiting for you to complete the trifecta. You've called RE a Hitler idolizer and racist, the citizens of North Dakota Nazis by infering their tacit approval and have called me a nazi. Good work. Liberals are very good at calling people nazis. You are the one that revealed yourself for what you are.

Again, What did the original post have to do with WESTERN COLLEGE HOCKEY and the North Dakota hockey players? You were the one that brought Nazis into the discussion, not me.

You've got nothing going so you drift in, denigrate someone unfairly, get called on it and then get upset because you got called on it for being a troll.

I'm sure that you will never achieve what RE did in his lifetime. You totally ignore any evidence that what RE did was not representative of his true nature and feelings. Instead you choose to smear a dead man that contributed more in a positive way than you ever will. Good job. That is what liberals do best. Tear other people down. If it makes you feel better, so be it.

Have an interesting life.
