NHL Draft Lottery

The NHL held their draft lottery for teams that did not make the playoffs. Here's the order for the first 14 picks:

1. Chicago Blackhawks
2. Philadelphia Flyers
3. Phoenix Coyotes
4. Los Angeles Kings
5. Washington Capitals
6. Edmonton Oilers
7. Columbus Blue Jackets
8. Boston Bruins
9. St. Louis Blues
10. Florida Panthers
11. Carolina Hurricanes
12. Montreal Canadiens
13. Toronto Maple Leafs
14. Colorado Avalanche

There's not as much drama as other years because no one has really emerged as a clear-cut number one for this year's draft. It was Angelo Esposito, then Logan Couture, then Alexei Cherepanov. The current consensus this week is that Pat Kane, Kyle Turris, and Jakub Voracek are the clear-cut top three. Next week, the fad will probably be James van Riemsdyk and hot pants. My guess is that by the time we get to June, nobody will have any clue, and it will just depend on what each individual team values the most. We could see a lot of off-the-wall picks.
