It should be noted that Mike Fink, Seth Helgeson, and David Warsofsky are 1990 birthdates that are trying out for a spot on the U18 team next season.

This is going to be a very tough team to pick, as the 1991 class looks like a very deep year for USA Hockey. The competition for spots on the blueline should be especially intense.

I think it is interesting that there aren't a ton of Minnesota kids on the list, and I'd guess that not that many will make the team. Zach Budish would probably be considered a lock, but I think he'll be returning to Edina HS next year. Nate Schmidt is probably also another lock, but again, there are way more quality defenseman than spots available. Meanwhile, it definitely looks like a great year for kids playing in Michigan and California.

It will definitely be interesting to see which direction USA Hockey chooses to go in. I think it has the potential to be a very exciting group of kids.

There is only one less player from MN trying out this year than last year (not including kids from Shattuck that list Faribault, MN as their "hometown"). MN kids invited over the last six years:

2007: Eight
2006: Nine
2005: Six
2004: Nine
2003: Nine
2002: Seven

Average it all out and we get eight players from MN trying out a year. Which is exactly the number we have trying out this year.

If the 90's are trying out for the U-18 team, who is leaving the U-17's? Or will they carry even more on the roster?
