MN High School Tournament Recap

On Monday, the southern part of the state made up the semifinal games that got snowed out on Saturday .

In section 1AA, Rochester Century beat crosstown rival Rochester Mayo 4-1, and defending section champ Lakeville North beat Rochester John Marshall 3-1.

In section 1A, Albert Lea avenged their upset loss to Marshall in the semifinals last year by a score of 7-1. New Ulm beat Mankato West 5-2.

In the northwest part of the state on Monday, Thief River Falls beat East Grand Forks 6-0, and will move on to face Warroad in the final. In section 4A, Little Falls beat Sartell easily, while Fergus Falls knocked off Alexandria 1-0.

Tuesday was a big night for hockey, as a lot of sections played their semifinal round.

The best game of the night was probably in section 6A, where New Prague defeated Faribault 3-2 in overtime. Faribault tied the game in the final two minutes with a penalty shot, before falling in overtime. New Prague will meet top seed Orono, who beat Mound-Westonka.

The first number one seeds finally fell tonight. In section 3AA, top seed Roseville fell to White Bear Lake 4-0. That's not much of a surprise since White Bear is a strong team that had already beaten Roseville earlier this season.

In the state's most unpredictable section so far, 5A, top seed Mahtomedi was upset by fourth seeded Totino-Grace. Blake ended the run of upstart Spring Lake Park with an 8-6 victory.

Finally, Blaine beat Wayzata 4-3 tonight in section 4AA

White Bear Lake had not beaten Roseville prior to last night. They lost both regular season games to the Raiders.
