New Commitments

Salisbury Prep defenseman Kevin Quick has committed to Michigan. That's a huge pick-up for Michigan since they were pretty desperate for defenseman next year and Quick was one of the last remaining top prospects they had a shot at. Ohio State was the only other finalist from out West for his services.

Another former Michigan forward, Zac MacVoy, will return to the CCHA next season playing for Lake Superior. I always felt like MacVoy had some talent and could do well in the right situation. Hopefully that situation is in the Soo.

Not a Western commit, but USHL forward David Brownschidle committed to Brown. Brownschidle was a pretty talented forward and had drawn some interest from western schools.

Thought he would choose an eastern school but this is a nice pickup for Michigan.

Big pickup for Michigan. I was beginning to wonder where Quick would end up. At one point he was looking at UND but that didn't happen (really, I don't think UND was even close anyhow).

Don't look down at eastern prep schools as a stepping stone to D1 hockey! As many players come from there as from Tier II Junior "A". From my experience, the top two lines on many prep school teams are competitive with those of the USHL. The third and fourth lines are usually made up of younger freshman & sophomores, so Juniors are deeper in talent/experience, not necessarily better.

Where did the info on the Macvoy kid come from? I've been looking on the USHL site and have'nt seen anything.

The MacVoy thing came from Chris Heisenberg's site. It's not in the recent additions, but it's under Lake Superior's commitments.
