Bruneteau was rated as one of the top remaining forwards in the 2007 recruting class, and is a nice pick-up for the Sioux. Bruneteau also reportedly had scholarship offers from Colorado College, Denver, and Michigan.
You need to register to view the OWH story, but here's an excerpt:
Bruneteau, who turned down the likes of Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Denver and the University of Nebraska at Omaha, is a senior at Millard North this year and may join the Fighting Sioux next fall. If he doesn't, the 5-foot-10, 180-pounder may spend another year in Omaha.
"It really comes down to how much I improve this year," he said.
Bruneteau cited UND's track record of players moving on to the NHL, and the number of Shattuck-St. Mary's alums, where Bruneteau played prep hockey, that are currently with the Sioux as reasons for choosing North Dakota.

I'd say it is pretty difficult to turn down a school that already had its necessary allotment of forwards for 2007 booked up before this past summer.
Somewhat related, and I think someone else may have stated this previously... but does it seem as though Wisconsin has been slipping a little bit when it comes to securing blue chip recruits. WI has been turned away by Kane, Lapointe, Malone, Bruneteau... You'd think WI would ink a few more forwards for next season.
Thanks for the updates, great site.
Lapointe is not a forward and D was not a significant position of need for UW for next year (see Nigel WIlliams leaving because of depth). But yes the forward situation is suprising when you add in Trupp & Winnett to the hit list of recent misses and consider Turris seem to be a player that might be fun to play with.
I think I sense sour grapes in a previous comment.
anonymous 8:28, How can Wisconsin be turned away by someone (Bruneteau) who never received an offer? Also, How can Wisconsin be turned away by someone (Kane) who will never play college hockey? And Lapointe isn't a loss at all with UW being absolutely loaded at D next year. Next time think before you type.
Any loss by Bucky is a good loss. Watch for two big ones this weekend.
The reason you lost out on Lapointe, Malone, and Bruneteau is easy. They wanted to go where they have the best chance of turning pro. UND
Hak, keep the blue chipper's coming. Like it or not folks...Hak has a crown coming if he keeps this up.
Bruneteau never actually played with any of the current ND guys from Shattuck.
Sioux fans have got to be the most unintelligent fanbase in the country. In fact, it's not even close. That's one crown you have and Hak had nothing to do with it, you earned it all on your own.

Stay classy.
Anonymous 8:46,
First, "Bruneteau, who turned down the likes of Wisconsin..." was posted in the blog on which we are currently commenting. Thats how I tied him to Wisconsin.
Secondly, Pat Kane did turn down Wisconsin. Sure he is not playing NCAA, but WI lost a blue chip recruit as he was very seriously considering NCAA. London obviously won the recruiting battle.
Lastly, Lapointe is a loss regardless of who is coming in at D. His dominance this season in the USHL is un-arguable.
I'll think before I type, you should try relaxing before you type... remember we are all here to talk a little hockey and slack off at work.
I'll type slow so some of our intellectually challanged friends here have a better chance of following along. Kane was only linked to UW very late in the game and his college choices for the longest time were either BU or Michigan. LaPointe was offered, but realistically he was the 4th Dman for next year (Sorry, but Smith, Goloubef, & McDonagh were all higher on UW's want list).
Don't worry about me toots, I can be relaxed and point out that your post is full of inaccuracies all at the same time.
First of all, you are overgeneralizing each situation bigtime. There are always many factors that goes into this decision and it's not as black and white as you're alluding it is.
If Bruteneau was not offered anything by Wisconsin, then he can't turn them down. It's like if you told all your buddies you turned down a job to be President at IBM and they never offered you the job to begin with.
Kane went to London for a number of reasons which mainly had to do with getting his H.S. diploma in the middle of the season. Wisconsin wasn't in the running until late in the game anyways.
Lapointe from what I've heard wasn't that big of a priority to Wisconsin because they were already so deep at D. Lapointe also might of had concerns with ice time at UW.
The bottom line is that these are all great players AND Wisconsin will be just fine without them.
Thats right. Wisconsin doesn't need those players because Turris had already demonstrated he can play with himself. He will single handedly whack both the Gophers and the Sioux next season.
"Thats right. Wisconsin doesn't need those players because Turris had already demonstrated he can play with himself. He will single handedly whack both the Gophers and the Sioux next season."
Finally, somebody brings some sense to the table...sheesh.
Sounds to me like UW fans are a bit jealous of the high-powered Sioux recruits that keep coming in. Say what you will about Lapointe. He was Wisconsin's Mr. Hockey and him choosing any program other than Bucky was a huge blow.
LaPoint shouldn't be a concern for Bucky right now. If they don't get a class of forwards in that can bury the puck, their in trouble. Yes, Turris comes in with high expectations, but he better have some help? Elliot is one of the nations top goal tenders, but scoring 2-3 goals per weekend just won't cut it.
Any thought on Skille leaving after this year in fear of what another injury could do to his value with Chicago?
Wow, Bucky fans are a bunch of tools!!!!
Keep telling yourself the Sue "stole" Lapoint from Wisconsin if it makes you feel better. While he is a nice prospect and may turn out to be the best in the long run, the simple fact is that he was UW's FOURTH option at D and UW got their first 3 (Smith Goloubef, & McDonagh). Fact is while he was offered and is a very good talent that the staff would have figured out something to do with, his going to the Sue may have been the best thing for everyone. UW got the guys they wanted, and Lapoint can go hang out with his brother without a logjam of talent on the blue line.
Now the forwards, yes UW needs some and has lost the last few times they have gone head to head with the Sue, but somehow I think the Badgers will manage to field a lineup next year. If I had to guess, the Sue staff would trade the any two of Bruneteau, Malone, or Trupp heads up for Turris and think they got the better end of the deal. Long way to go with several more pretty good forwards left on the board. I bet Bucky will end up doing just fine and have a better rated recruiting class than the Sue in the end.
If you're saying you'd rather have Turris and two other guys on a line vs. Malone, Trupp and one other guy, you're an idiot....and I'm not a Sioux fan...
Best of luck trying to win scoring one goal per game the rest of the year....and to think Elliot could have had a nice bank roll right now.
After watching the Badgers this weekend I am surprised they get top forwards. That clog-up-the-middle trap is really boring even if it is effective. If I had the ability I would want to play for a more offensive minded program. Bucky fans must have to take No-Doze between each period.
You can bring all the so called talent in to und. They are nothing more than Gopher regects. Go Gophers beat the Sioux
