There's game in the west that's already in the books. I really wanted to go with the "Mavericks Win Season Opener" headline, but sadly, it's looks like I'm gonna have to go with the other one: Fraud at Polls!(BTW, it'd warm my heart if anyone got that reference.)
Friday Games to discuss
Ohio State beat Lake Superior 1-0. Jeff Jakaitis made 47 saves, and still gets the loss. Joe Palmer gets a shutout in his first college start.
Michigan State easily beat Western Michigan 4-1. Jeff Lerg only had to make 14 saves to get the win. The Crowder-Kennedy-Abdelkader line had three goals.
Ferris State rebounded from last week's performance against Union to trounce Mercyhurst 7-1.
Michigan Tech scored with 3 seconds left in the game to beat Northern Michigan 2-1. That's a really disappointing loss for Northern Michigan. Tech outplayed the Wildcats though, outshooting them 39-19.
Minnesota cruised to an easy 7-1 win over Wayne State, as expected.
Michigan beat up on Alabama-Huntsville by a tune of 8-1. Hensick, Johnson, Kolarik and Rohlfs all had 3 points.
Miami cruised over Canisius by a score of 5-1.
DU beat St. Cloud in overtime, despite being outplayed pretty badly. DU's (sorta)all-freshmen of Brock Trotter, Rhett Rakhshani, and Tyler Ruegsegger got off to a hot start, with Trotter scoring the first two goals of the game. That almost changed when Ruegsegger took a 5 minute penalty late in the game allowing SCSU to tie the game. But DU won the game in overtime thanks to a Pat Mullen goal.
Duluth opened up their season with a 3-3 tie against UMass-Lowell.
North Dakota and Wisconsin was the game of the night. Darcy Zajac scored in overtime to give UND a 3-2 win. The bigger loss for Wisconsin was Jack Skille, Ross Carlson, and Kyle Klubertanz, who are all unlikely to play tomorrow due to injury.

Chris, if I was you I'd handle this Hextall news with kid gloves. If you write anything on this, just say he's the top recruit of the decade so we can keep the sniveling down to a minimum.
tearing up bchl........
watch out for this kid!
You forgot soon to be tearing a few Gophers a new one.
Great game between the Sioux and Badgers score 0-0 after the 1st period.
Disappointing 3-3 tie UMD with Lowell.
I feel sorry for Jakaitis. Yeah, the more talented team probably won this game, but how do you make 47 saves and still lose the game? I know the answer to the question, duh, but I always feel bad when a goaltender plays his breezers off and still ends up losing.
UAA looked very solid against Merrimack, beating them 6-2 and outshooting them 31-14, despite Merrimack enjoying 8 power plays (one of them a 5 minute).
