Linkorama

Minnesota State lost a pretty good defensive recruit. I'm pretty disappointed, as I was looking forward to seeing Carlson in a Maverick uniform.

Hockey's Future's college hockey writer, DJ Powers, previewed the WCHA from an NHL prospect standpoint.

Goon's World was bothered by what I said about North Dakota's recruiting class, as were a number of North Dakota fans. For the record, I never said Evan Trupp, Jake Marto and Derrick Lapoint(I don't include Hamilton since he's not really a recruit, and, well, let's just say that I'm familiar with his work) weren't nice prospects, but I think any coach would have taken the group that has committed to Minnesota or Wisconsin over what North Dakota had. You could even make a strong argument for some of the other schools in the WCHA.

Let's Go DU kept a travelogue of their journey to Oxford, Ohio for the Icebreaker tourney.

INCH has started their Hobey Watch List.

So the new NAHL commissioner isn't supporting hockey in Santa Fe, and apparently the city councilman aren't either.

Who cares that the Goofs have 15 Pro prospects. Based on last seasons WCHA playoffs the Huskies sure don't! If I am not mistaken Holy Cross had ZERO!

What could Goon have been thinking. It is obvious that the UND 2007 recruiting class fails to satisfy the Minnesota born weenie criteria.

based on the fact that UW was after three of the four pickups for und...your wrong. besides, look at some those UM and UW recruits...blake wheeler, kris chucko?? and how about skille(who is good but needs to prove hes a 7 pick overall) and 2004 mr hockey minnesota tom gorowsky...i have a lot more respect for wisconsin recruiting than minnesota also, all minnesota does is pick up kids that "dream" of playing gopher hockey...and look where that gets them, they are the yankees of college hockey, except without the championships.

Hit a nerve with the recruiting classes. Halos are upset.....

Sue fans fail to mentioned their 1-3 record against the Gophers last year......ummmm

Chris,
I wasn't mad about your article, just thought it was interesting since the recruiting season isn't even half over. Actually I think you will see that there are going to be some more big recruits signing at UND soon. Just a hunch.

gopher fans fail to mention their 0-1 record against HOLY CROSS last year...better luck next year!

Gopher Guy,
very nice 1-3 record, however, I believe UND finished higher than your team at season end. Hum, I believe we actually beat Holy Cross, which in turn extended our season.

But dont worry the Goofers have the best team on paper, however, your goalies suck.

The funnest thing I ever saw last season was at the regional when some upset goofer fan came up to me and said, you guy would never beat us, I said, oh yeah I guess its a mute point since your team is on the bus back to MPLS already and UND will be playing Holy Cross tomorrow night.
I guess we will never find out.

I think Chris' comment was fair. He wasn't acting like everything was set in stone and North Dakota was incapable of improving their class compared to what other programs already had lined up. Those other schools do have better classes at this point. I am not sure why some Fighting Halo fans are PMSing over it. Although it is funny to see those Halo fans play their "no respect" card whenever somebody doesn't blindly drink their green Kool-Aid and bow to the altar of Englestad.

I always thought the "no respect" card was for SCSU fans? Apparently not.

I'd say most of what Goon has to say is a "moot" point. So somebody hit the "mute" button on him.

ok, "me", yes you could argue that UW and UM have better classes on PAPER...but they also have bigger classes...and saying someone is a "potential" whatever rounder is pointless. und has at least 2 guys that were supposed to be drafted in 3-5th rounds and were not drafted at all. through in forney who was picked as a "potential" mid first rounder, and lapoint who was dubbed a 2nd rounder just prior to the draft and ended up being a 4th rounder... trupp, who is awesome, but wont be drafted because of his size. and of course malone...enough said...potential means squat.

Hey Me, everyone gets tired of hearing how good you think you look on paper every year. Why not start hanging top recruiting class banners in your arena, if there is any room amongst all the other meaningless banners.

what? no JJ for Hobey nomination?
he is the most heralded talent of this 87 class. what gives?

Probably because Michigan hasn't played a game yet.

One last time with the Sioux stuff:

Would you rather have Evan Trupp or Kyle Turris?

Would you rather have Evan Trupp or Mike Hoeffel?

Would you rather have Derrick Lapoint or Cade Fairchild?

Would you rather have Derrick Lapoint or Brendan Smith?

I doubt many people would choose the former on any of those questions.

well you are comparing und vs. minnie and wisco...as for wisco, they were after lapoint and trupp and malone...i have not seen any of the players in action though. i can say that und is not getting as much respect for the 2007 class now as much as they will when those players suit up...just a hunch

Well said Chris...Game Over. Sioux fans, go grab a box of tissues and whine about this over at kesselsports.com just like you piss and moan about everything else. And don't worry, you'll still be able to beat UAA and Tech in the coming years with your average recruits.

Anonymous said...

im sure that you know plenty about tissues...judging by that comment, you probably masterbate to old John Wayne movies.

I'm amazed at how Sue fans get their undies in a bundle with talking about some future incoming recruits. Who cares, we don't know if they are really that good until they suit up. Recruit class rankings are about as valuable as USCHO.com team rankings in October.

Remember, 1-3 vs Gophers last year... Here's me laughing at you clowns wearing HC jerseys you paid $100 for....

Why talk about last year when the wheels fell off the Goofie wagon early this year. Two suspensions before the season even starts and only one goal from the LOL top recruiting class of the year against an East opponent. I guess it's a real good thing you scheduled the weakest DI opponent possible for this weekend because we wouldn't want to damage any of those frail little Gopher egos any further.

to change the subject a bit, I was told Carlson quit the Steel and uncommitted from Mankato because they wanted him to play another year of juniors following this season and he did not want to.

Anonymous said...

Masturbating to John Wayne movies??? Thats a thought that wouldn't enter most peoples minds yet YOU thought of it. I know it must get lonely up there in North Dakota but come on! Lol!!!

Chris said...

That makes sense in regards to Carlson. I figured at least one of the defenseman they recruited would have to play another year of juniors. It's a shame to lose him though.

Sorry, Lapoint was "offered" by UW, but reality was they already had gotten commits from Goloubef & Smith (who they would not trade either of for Lapoint) before LaPoint was offered and the offer was more or less a courtesy offer to an instate kid (in the post Kessel enviornment that is Wisconsin, panties get in a bundle when a good instate kid "picks" a rival). Reality is UW has a glut of D men next year barring anything unforseen, and LaPoint knew that which was part of his "choice". In fact McDonagh is now scheduled to come next year and I doubt anyone would trade Lapoint for him straight up either. As for Trupp and Malone, yup UW still needs to add a couple forwards and would have loved to have either as well as Winnett who picked Michigan. Bottom line is I bet the Sue would trade both Malone and Trupp for Turris and think they got the better of that deal if they could. Chris made a spot on analysis of the class compared to UW & Minnie which apparently is hard for some to believe. Cheerup, if you can land Nash, you'll close the gap.

I find it interesting reading these comments that the Gopher fans are pointing fingers at Sioux fans demanding respect for their school and their respective recruiting classes and yet can't give the respect to spell the name 'Sioux' correctly. Instead, call us halos and Sue and whatnot. Hey, you know what? Don't like the Sioux if you wish, that's fine. But if you expect us to respect you back, spell the name correctly or just go back to your own site and whine about our whining.

Anonymous said...

I guess refering to the Gophers as "goofers" is ok then? Goes both ways.

They aren't whining. In fact they think Barbell is the second coming.
