According to the Colubmus Dispatch, Ohio State leading scorer Tom Fritsche will miss at least the first part of the season, and possibly more time with a severe case of ulcerative colitis. Fritsche's weight dropped from 190 lbs. to 150 lbs. He's beginning a new type of treatment today that if successful, could mean Fritsche may be able to return before the end of the season.
As with any affliction dealing with the colon, ulcerative colitis is a pretty nasty condition. It's basically an inflammation of the colon, causing the colon to empty more frequently. There's no real "cure". Treatment focuses on regulating the colitis through medication and diet.
Best of luck to Tom Fritsche as he battles with this. Certainly it would be great to see him back out on the ice this season, but right now, the most important thing is finding a way to treat his condition.

That is a huge loss for the Buckeyes. Colitus is a nasty conditioin.
I believe Jordan Leopold suffers from this same ailment
