Des Moines Wins Clark Cup + Canadian Rumors

Des Moines beat the Sioux Falls Stampede last night to win the USHL's championship, the Clark Cup. Notre Dame 2007 recruit Ben Ryan scored the game winning goal, and Minnesota recruit Kyle Okposo was the leading scorer in the playoffs.

The USHL will hold their draft on Thursday morning, and I think I might try and liveblog it. That should be interesting. If nothing else, it's a great chance for me to look like a total moron.

The Scouting News had some free stuff up today that was pretty interesting. Most of it pertained to the upcoming OHL draft.

Top pick Cody Hodgson's advisors sent a letter to OHL clubs telling them to stop calling. It also said he doesn't have a deal with any OHL team yet. That's good news for college hockey, but I still think he ends up with an OHL team by the end of this summer.

James Livingston said he wants to play in the OHL, but Hockey Scouting thinks he'll play college hockey. I think he seems like a better fit for college hockey as well.

Vern Cooper, who recently tried out for the NTDP U18 team, has been talking about choosing to play college hockey, but HS thinks he already has a deal in place with an OHL team.

Cory Trivino, who is a top rated prospect in Ontario, is one player who will be playing college hockey some day.

There's anonymous rumors that NTDP forward Phil McRae has been taking visits to OHL teams. I guess it's not terribly surprising. His dad, Basil, played for the London Knights. McRae will also fall into Peter Mueller/Pat Kane territory of playing two years for the NTDP, and then having an extra year before he goes to college, unless he decided that he wants to accelerate his schooling.

Could kane and McRae both go back to NTDP???????

Kane would be allowed, if he so chooses, to play another half year with the U18s and then begin college.
