Recruiting Update

Because football can't have all the recruiting fun today...

The Wisconsin State Journal reported that Colton Grant and Cody Goloubef took unofficial visits to Madison last weekend.

I've heard a lot of very good things about Grant's game. He's currently the 5th best available prospect on the 2007 Recruiting Board and would be a great pick-up for any school.

Goloubef still isn't up on the Recruiting Board due to my forgetfulness/laziness, but he's the best available defenseman for that class. Early this year, it was reported that he was being recruited by Maine, New Hampshire, BU, Ohio State, Miami, Cornell, and Notre Dame. It now looks like the Badgers are very interested in Goloubef, and I'd have to assume that Michigan is recruiting him heavily since they still need to add more defenseman for 2007.

Goloubef is still in the process of deciding between NCAA hockey and playing for the Sarnia Sting of the OHL. If I had to guess, I'd say it's about 50/50 right now, but he should be a very good player whereever he ends up.

Cedar Rapids forward Chad Costello took a visit to St. Cloud this week. Costello is a 5'9" 170 lbs. winger that is leading the USHL in scoring with 20 goals and 31 assists in 39 games. Costello would seem to fit in with Bob Motzko's attemps to make the Huskies a smaller, faster team.

The top goalie in the USHL this year has been Rochester, Minnesota native Alex Kangas. Kangas should be a very good college goalie some day. The only problem is that he's expressed a desire to play college hockey next season and most of the teams in the WCHA reloaded at goalie last season. Most of the WCHA teams seem set in goal for the foreseeable future. North Dakota is interested in bringing in a goalie for 2007. Kangas may end up having to stay an extra year in the USHL to find somewhere he would like to go.
