Recruiting News

Michigan State added the first two players to their 2008 recruiting from the Detroit Honeybaked AAA program. The first is defenseman Austin Handley, who is considered one of the top defenseman in the MWEHL. The second is goalie Jordan Tibbett, who will replace Dominic Vicari at MSU.

Chris Heisenberg mentioned a couple teams that were interested in Cushing Prep forward Brad Malone. He's originally from Quebec, but seems intent on playing college hockey. He's the cousin of former St. Cloud State Husky Ryan Malone, and should be a high draft pick in the NHL Draft. He'll most likely end up on the East Coast, but Denver, North Dakota and Michigan have all expressed interest in him.

Aaron Marvin of Warroad HS in Minnesota will likely be choosing between North Dakota and Minnesota State Mankato. Usually it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that anyone with the last name Marvin will play for the Sioux, since they're the first family of North Dakota hockey, but Mankato has made a very strong push for his services, and Mankato assistant Darren Blue is an excellent recruiter. If I had to guess, Marvin will ultimately choose North Dakota, but I wouldn't be as shocked if he went the other way.

In high school action, Apple Valley High School pulled off one of the biggest upsets in some time when they beat top-ranked Holy Angels 4-3. Holy Angels only other loss this season came to Shattuck-St. Mary's Prep. Apple Valley got great goaltending from goalie Matt Beggs and were able to hold onto their lead late in the game, despite Holy Angels getting some quality chances.

In Wisconsin, after all the controversy, Eau Claire North, led by Derrick Lapointe and Justin Johnson, defeated rivals Eau Claire Memorial by a score of 5-2.

Is Jordan Tibbett the black kid? The reason I ask is that the whole Honeybaked team was at one of the Michigan hockey games. A puck came over the glass and was headed right for me (I was finally gonna get a shot at catching a damn puck!) and as the puck was going by him, one of the Honeybaked players reached out behind him with both hands, and snagged it like he was a WR catching a football.

I had to applaud because it was a helluva catch and one of the coaches turned around and was like "Yeah, he's our goalie"...If that's him, he's obvious got great reactions!

Curious if that's him....
