Brendan Smith Chooses Wisconsin

Many people in the world of college hockey thought that Brendan Smith, one of the top defenseman in the 2007 class would choose to go to school whereever his friend and former teammate Sam Gagner picked. So once Gagner decided on Wisconsin two weeks ago, a lot of people thought it was only a matter of time before Smith joined. Now, Paul Shaheen's Research on Ice newsletter is confirming that Smith has verball committed to the Badgers as well.

This should give the Badgers the top recruiting class in 2007 now that they have commitments from one of the top forwards, one of the top defenseman, and one of the top goalies in the class.

What a get for the Badgers. I saw him play a handful of times and although it was in the inferior OPJHL he was just at another level than everyone else. He stuck out like a sore thumb and even more so than 1st round foward Andrew Cogliano.

With both Gagner and Turris, I'd say the Badgers have TWO of the top forwards in that class, rather than just one of the top forwards.
