Bowling Green is on a Roll

In case you haven't noticed, Bowling Green has been playing some very good hockey lately. They've won their last 6 games, which is the nation's second longest streak right now, including a big sweep over in-state rivals Ohio State. That run earned Bowling Green College Hockey News' Team of the Week honor.

While Bowling Green has been steadily improving over the past few seasons under Scott Paluch, I had pretty much written them off after their dreadful start. Freshmen goalie Jimmy Spratt was taking longer than expected to develop into an every game starter. But lately, senior Jon Horrell has been playing outstanding in goal, getting every win during their six win run.

Bowling Green is currently sitting in the middle of the tight CCHA race and 20th in the Pairwise Rankings. Their schedule down the stretch is somewhat favorable. They have three winnable series against teams lower in the standings, and three series against teams higher in the standings that could help boost their PWR, with a random game against Ferris State thrown in after rink problems earlier this season caused that game to be postponed. An NCAA at-large big may be out of the question, but a first round bye in the CCHA playoffs isn't out of the question.

There was another piece of good news for the Falcons last week when former standout goalie Jordan Sigalet had a Moonlight Graham moment when he played 40 seconds without facing a shot in a Boston Bruins game. Sigalet is a good guy that has had to overcome a lot the past year or so after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Hopefully Jordan continues on to a nice NHL career. In any case, he can now officially say that he is an NHL hockey player, which is a title no one can ever take away.
