Recruiting News

BCHL forward Evan Trupp was supposed to be deciding soon between Wisconsin, North Dakota, and New Hampshire this past weekend. I'd expect his choice to become public in the next couple days. Trupp is an Anchorage native and is having an outstanding season in the BCHL.

Also Trevor Lewis will be deciding soon between Michigan, Boston College, Ohio State, and Maine. Lewis wanted to make a decision before the Viking Cup at the end of the month. Lewis is the best available in the USHL right now.

Travis Zajac's brother Darcy will be choosing between North Dakota, New Hampshire, and Michigan. I wouldn't be surprised to see Darcy end up with his brother at North Dakota.

Jimmy O'Brien is most likely down to Minnesota, North Dakota, and Colorado College, as Wisconsin and Michigan both seem to have lost interest. O'Brien would have been one of the nation's top recruits for 2007 if he hadn't decided to accelerate his schooling. As it is, he hasn't garnered as much interest as a 2006 prospect.

Colorado College and Minnesota have both shown interest in Elk River HS winger Brett Peterson.

Ryan McDonough, currently the 8th best uncommitted defenseman for 2007, is reportedly choosing between scholarship offers from Minnesota-Duluth and St. Cloud. He would be a huge pick-up for either school.

Chris Heisenberg's Blog mentioned that Ohio State, Miami, and Notre Dame, along with four Eastern schools are interested in Ontario defenseman Cody Goloubef. Goloubef should be on the 2007 Recruiting Board, but I haven't added him yet.

The best defenseman left for 2007 is Brendan Smith. Smith has narrowed his list down to Wisconsin and Boston University. It seems likely that Smith will choose to go whereever former teammate Sam Gagner choose to go. If I had to guess right now, I'd say both Gagner and Smith end up as Badgers.
